Job summary

Rockpress in Brisbane is seeking an experienced Boilermaker Leading Hand to guide a team of approximately 10 boilermakers and fabricators in our metal fabrication workshop. In this hands-on leadership role you will coordinate daily workloads, interpret drawings, ensure safety and quality, and help the team deliver on time while solving problems and continuously improving productivity.

You'll work closely with production and quality teams, mentor less experienced staff and maintain high standards

Qualifications

• Extensive boilermaker/fabrication experience.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Strong commitment to safety and quality.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support a team of approximately 10 boilermakers and fabricators.
• Allocate work and coordinate daily workloads.
• Review job requirements and prioritise tasks.
• Monitor progress and adjust to keep work on schedule.
• Check completed work for quality and compliance with drawings.
• Identify and resolve fabrication and production issues.
• Provide practical technical advice and assist with problem solving.
• Support team with complex fabrication and welding requirements.
• Liaise with production, quality, estimating and other departments to resolve issues.
• Ensure safe work practices throughout the section.
• Identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality and workflow.
• Support training and development of less experienced team members.

Lead a Skilled Fabrication Team

We are looking for an experienced Boilermaker Leading Hand to lead our team of approximately 10 boilermakers and fabricators within our Brisbane-based metal fabrication business.

This is a hands-on leadership role suited to an experienced Boilermaker who enjoys helping people, organising production, solving problems and making sure work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard of quality.

You won't be sitting behind a desk all day. You'll be working alongside the team, providing direction, resolving issues and helping keep jobs moving through the workshop.

About the Role

As the Boilermaker Team Leader, you will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of the boilermaking section, including:

• Leading and supporting a team of approximately 10 boilermakers and fabricators


• Allocating work and coordinating daily workloads


• Reviewing job requirements and ensuring the team understands priorities


• Monitoring progress and making adjustments to keep work on schedule


• Checking completed work for quality, accuracy and compliance with drawings and specifications


• Identifying and resolving fabrication and production issues


• Providing practical technical advice and assisting team members with problem solving


• Supporting team members with complex fabrication and welding requirements


• Liaising with production, quality, estimating and other departments to resolve issues


• Ensuring safe work practices are followed throughout the section


• Identifying opportunities to improve productivity, quality and workflow


• Supporting the training and development of less experienced team members

About You

We're looking for someone who has strong fabrication experience and the confidence to lead a team.

You will ideally have:

• Trade qualification as a Boilermaker


• Significant experience in metal fabrication


• Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings


• Excellent understanding of welding, fabrication and assembly processes


• Strong problem-solving skills


• High attention to detail and commitment to quality


• Good communication and interpersonal skills


• The ability to prioritise work and keep a team focused


• A practical, hands-on approach to leadership


• Previous experience leading or supervising a team is highly regarded

You don't necessarily need to have held a formal Team Leader title previously. If you are an experienced Boilermaker who is already helping others, solving problems and taking responsibility for getting the job done, we'd like to hear from you.
