Job summary

PALAS Consulting is seeking experienced F5 engineers for Canberra-based, on-site contract work with Federal Government data centre networks. You will manage production traffic on F5 BIG-IP platforms, covering planning, installation, testing, and cutovers, while ensuring high availability and secure access.

The role requires deep expertise in LTM and APM, HA configurations, iRules, SSL/TLS, and the ability to document and hand over knowledge to the internal team.

Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on F5 BIG-IP experience with depth in LTM and APM.
• Experience on physical F5 hardware and virtual editions, including HA pairs and failover.
• Track record of migrations or cutovers in production with short change windows and rollback plans.
• Comfortable writing and reading iRules, SSL/TLS profiles, and tracing faults in data centre networks.
• F5 certification, GTM, or Advanced WAF experience is advantageous.
• This is a senior level role and Australian citizenship is mandatory.
• Current AGSVA security clearance is preferred. Based in Canberra or willing to work on-site five days per week.

Job description

PALAS Consulting is seeking expressions of interest from experienced F5 engineers for contract work in Federal Government data centre network environments in Canberra. Large agencies run their public-facing online services through F5, on both physical appliances and virtual editions, and engineers who can change those platforms safely are in short supply. If that is you, apply and we will contact you to discuss current and upcoming engagements, the environments and your fit.

You will work inside an agency network team on F5 BIG-IP platforms that carry production traffic for services used by millions of people. The work covers the full change cycle: planning and validating a design, installing and configuring the platform, testing, cutting services over and resolving what comes up afterwards. Load balancing, application access policy, high availability and failover are the core of it. Documentation and handing knowledge to the permanent team are part of the job, not an afterthought, because the agency has to run what you leave behind.

About you:

• Several years of hands-on F5 BIG-IP experience, with real depth in LTM and working experience in APM.
• Experience on both physical F5 hardware and virtual editions, including high availability pairs and failover.
• A track record of migrations or cutovers in production, where the change window was short and the rollback plan mattered.
• Comfortable writing and reading iRules, working with SSL/TLS profiles and certificates, and tracing a fault through the wider data centre network.
• F5 certification, BIG-IP DNS (GTM) or Advanced WAF experience are each an advantage.
• This is a senior level role.
• Australian citizenship is mandatory.

Location and Working Arrangements

These engagements are Canberra-based and on-site at the client's premises. Contracts are typically an initial term of up to 12 months with extension options, engaged through PALAS Consulting at competitive daily rates. We are reviewing applications from Monday 21 September 2026 and are most interested in engineers who could start a new engagement from mid-October, so early applications are encouraged.
