Job Description
Workforce Engine The External Auditor will undertake external audit and assurance engagements for a range of clients, including legal practices, real estate agencies and other organisations. The role includes a strong focus on regulated trust account audits together with broader audit and compliance work.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, manage and conduct external audit and assurance engagements from commencement through to completion.
- Examine financial records, transactions, accounting records and supporting documentation to assess accuracy and compliance with applicable requirements.
- Review accounting processes, financial controls and record-keeping procedures as part of audit engagements.
- Perform audit testing, compliance testing, substantive procedures and analytical reviews, and investigate discrepancies identified during the audit.
- Conduct trust account audits for legal practices, real estate agencies and other regulated entities.
- Review trust account reconciliations, ledgers, transactions and supporting records and follow up identified discrepancies.
- Prepare audit workpapers and reports setting out audit procedures, findings and conclusions, including statutory and management reports where required.
- Identify financial, audit and compliance issues and provide practical recommendations arising from audit findings.
- Liaise directly with clients to obtain information, resolve audit queries and discuss findings and required actions.
- Maintain complete audit documentation and ensure engagements are completed within agreed timeframes.
Experience and Skills
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in Accounting, Finance, Auditing or a closely related field.
- Relevant professional experience in external audit, assurance or financial audit work.
- Experience undertaking audit testing and preparing audit workpapers and reports.
- Sound knowledge of accounting principles, audit procedures and compliance requirements.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple engagements and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting or audit software.
- Experience conducting audits of solicitor, real estate or other regulated trust accounts will be highly regarded.
- Experience with Xero, MYOB, CaseWare or similar software will also be highly regarded.
