Job summary

The Department of Defence is seeking an APS 6 Engineer Professional Explosive Ordnance in Penrith, NSW. The role leads complex engineering work across the Defence materiel capability lifecycle, engaging with stakeholders and delivering technical solutions that support safe and compliant capability outcomes.

Based on site in Penrith, this position requires the ability to obtain a Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance and a Bachelor of Engineering recognized by the Washington Accord.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of explosive ordnance engineering or closely related discipline.
• Ability to interpret and apply engineering policies, standards and regulatory frameworks.
• Proven leadership capability including team management and resource allocation.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team, setting priorities and delivering outputs.
• Perform complex explosive ordnance engineering activities and provide technical advice.
• Investigate, analyse and report on defects, risks and requirements.
• Develop and implement engineering recommendations to improve capability outcomes.
• Ensure materiel compliance with legislative, policy and safety frameworks.
• Monitor safety considerations in all activities.
• Contribute to strategic planning and program management.
• Mentor team members and manage stakeholder relationships.
