ElectraNet in Adelaide, SA, invites experienced engineers to shape South Australia's electricity network through the development, integration and commissioning of Substation Automation Systems. Join a team driving reliability, security and intelligent network performance.

Ideal candidates have 6–10 years in SCADA/Substation Automation, strong IEC 61850/DNP3 knowledge, and a degree in Electrical Engineering with Engineers Australia membership.

Qualifications

• Approximately 6–10 years in design, integration, testing or commissioning of SCADA and Substation Automation Systems.
• Strong knowledge of IEC 61850, DNP3 and substation communication networks.
• Experience with Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), control systems, remote engineering access and network interfaces.
• Sound understanding of high voltage transmission or distribution networks, power system fundamentals, and the role of automation systems in safe, reliable operations.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, with Engineers Australia membership; CPEng status is desirable.
• Knowledge of electricity industry standards and regulatory frameworks, including the National Electricity Rules and AEMO environment.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Senior roles require technical leadership, mentoring and driving best-practice across complex programs.

Responsibilities

• Develop, design, integrate and commission Substation Automation Systems to underpin network reliability and intelligence.
• Lead and contribute to SCADA and Substation Automation projects, including standards and reviews.
• Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership across teams.
• Collaborate with Asset Management, Operations, Project Delivery and Telecommunications to deliver integrated solutions.
• Ensure safety, reliability and resilience of the transmission network through robust automation design and testing.

About You

We're looking for engineers who are passionate about solving complex technical challenges and want to play a meaningful role in the future of South Australia's electricity network.

To be successful, you'll bring a combination of technical expertise, industry knowledge and a collaborative approach to engineering, including:

• Approximately 6 to 10 years of experience in the design, integration, testing or commissioning of SCADA and Substation Automation Systems.
• Strong knowledge of IEC 61850, DNP3 and substation communication networks.
• Experience working with Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), control systems, remote engineering access and network interfaces.
• A sound understanding of high voltage transmission or distribution networks, power system fundamentals, and the critical role automation systems play in maintaining safe, reliable and resilient network operations.

You are a qualified engineer with a Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering (or a related discipline), together with membership of Engineers Australia or eligibility to obtain membership. Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status is highly desirable.

Knowledge of electricity industry standards, regulatory frameworks and market requirements, including the National Electricity Rules and AEMO operating environment.

Strong analytical, problem‑solving and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, operations, asset management and project delivery teams.

For our Senior Automation Engineer opportunities, you'll also bring proven experience providing technical leadership, mentoring and developing engineers, influencing engineering standards, and driving best‑practice outcomes across complex programs of work.
