Job summary

ElectraNet is seeking an experienced Senior Automation Engineer to lead the design, integration and commissioning of Substation Automation Systems in Adelaide. You will work with Asset Management, Operations and Project Delivery to deliver reliable electrical networks.

You will mentor engineers, influence standards and contribute to complex energy infrastructure programs while supporting South Australia’s transition to a clean energy future.

Qualifications

• Approximately 6 to 10 years of experience in design, integration, testing or commissioning of SCADA and Substation Automation Systems.
• Strong knowledge of IEC 61850, DNP3 and substation communication networks.
• Experience with Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), control systems, remote engineering access and network interfaces.
• Sound understanding of high voltage transmission or distribution networks and automation's role in reliability.

Responsibilities

• Develop, design, integration and commissioning of Substation Automation Systems.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring and develop engineers across programs.
• Influence engineering standards and drive best-practice outcomes on complex projects.

About You

We’re looking for engineers who are passionate about solving complex technical challenges and want to play a meaningful role in the future of South Australia's electricity network.

To be successful, you’ll bring a combination of technical expertise, industry knowledge and a collaborative approach to engineering, including:

• Approximately 6 to 10 years of experience in the design, integration, testing or commissioning of SCADA and Substation Automation Systems.
• Strong knowledge of IEC 61850, DNP3 and substation communication networks.
• Experience working with Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), control systems, remote engineering access and network interfaces.
• A sound understanding of high voltage transmission or distribution networks, power system fundamentals, and the critical role automation systems play in maintaining safe, reliable and resilient network operations.
• You are a qualified engineer with a Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering (or a related discipline), together with membership of Engineers Australia or eligibility to obtain membership. Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of electricity industry standards, regulatory frameworks and market requirements, including the National Electricity Rules and AEMO operating environment.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, operations, asset management and project delivery teams.
• For our Senior Automation Engineer opportunities, you’ll also bring proven experience providing technical leadership, mentoring and developing engineers, influencing engineering standards, and driving best-practice outcomes across complex programs of work.
