Angels on Duty is seeking experienced Disability Support Workers to support participants with a range of complex physical, intellectual, behavioural, communication and psychosocial support needs across Ipswich, Walloon, South Brisbane Suburbs, Logan and surrounding areas.

Our participants require highly individualised support, including 24/7 care, community access, behavioural support, personal care and assistance with complex daily living needs.

Successful applicants will be confident working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team while maintaining a strong focus on participant safety, dignity, choice and quality of life.

Experience Required

Applicants should have demonstrated experience supporting adults with one or more of the following:

• Intellectual disabilities and cognitive impairments
• Non-verbal or limited verbal communication
• Complex behavioural support needs
• Behaviours of concern and behaviour escalation
• Sensory processing difficulties and environmental triggers
• Mental health and psychosocial disabilities
• High-intensity support needs
• Complex personal care requirements
• Participants requiring continuous supervision and active support

Clinical and Complex Care Experience (Highly Desirable)

Experience supporting participants with:

• PEG feeding
• Medication administration
• Bowel care and continence management
• Stoma care
• Catheter care
• Hoisting and manual handling
• Epilepsy and seizure management
• Dysphagia and mealtime management plans
• Positive Behaviour Support Plans (PBSPs)
• Restrictive practice frameworks

Role Expectations

• Provide safe, structured, and person-centred support both within the home and community environments.
• Support participants requiring 24/7 supervision and assistance with daily living activities.
• Facilitate meaningful community access while promoting independence, inclusion, and social engagement.
• Implement Positive Behaviour Support strategies and de-escalation techniques during challenging situations.
• Interpret non-verbal communication, behavioural cues, and sensory triggers to support participant needs effectively.
• Conduct dynamic risk assessments and make sound decisions within changing environments.
• Maintain continuous supervision where required due to the participant's vulnerability and inability to seek assistance independently.
• Support emotional regulation, routines, motivation, and skill development.
• Follow support plans, Behaviour Support Plans, risk assessments, and safeguarding requirements at all times.
• Complete detailed progress notes, behavioural observations, incident reports, and communication records.

Independent Community Support Skills

Successful applicants will demonstrate experience working independently in community settings, including:

• Decision-making without direct supervision
• Rapid risk assessment and problem-solving
• Behaviour de-escalation and crisis response
• Managing behaviour escalation in public settings
• Identifying and responding to sensory triggers
• Safe withdrawal from environments when required
• Maintaining participant safety whilst promoting community participation

Professional Judgement & Accountability

We are looking for workers who can confidently:

• Adjust activities and support strategies based on participant presentation and behaviours
• Recognise when a situation or environment is becoming unsafe
• Leave unsafe environments immediately when required to protect the participant and others
• Communicate effectively with families, coordinators, allied health professionals and management
• Follow Behaviour Support Plans and risk management strategies precisely
• Maintain professional boundaries and duty of care at all times
• Exercise sound judgement whilst working independently
