Job description

The Derwent Valley Council area is characterised by historic townships, productive agriculture, picturesque rural landscapes, and spectacular world heritage wilderness areas. Located just 30 minutes from Hobart.

Derwent Valley Council is responsible for a broad range of infrastructure and community services that support thewellbeing and prosperity of our diverse community.

We are looking for a talented and experienced Executive Officer to join our team.

This role is responsible for providing efficient, effective, and compliant administrative and governance support and secretarial support directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and by direction of the CEO, provide support to the Mayor, CEO and Leadership Team, ensuring the coordination of organisational executive support functions.

Reporting to the CEO, the incumbentwill focus on providing high-level, professional support, including coordinating minutes and agendas for Committee Meetings including the Audit Panel and other committees as required, arranging meetings for the CEO, travel and professional development opportunities for the CEO, and liaising with external stakeholders to facilitate other Council activities.

The Executive Officer will play a critical role in advancing the Councils goals and ensuring its compliance with governance and regulatory requirements. The incumbent will facilitate informed decision making through the timely and accurate provision of information, ultimately contributing to the Council’s success to achieve strategic objectives and outcomes.

To be successful you will have:

  • Proven experience as an Executive Officer or in a similar role, preferably in a government or public sector environment.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft and prepare reports, presentations, and other correspondence.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Tertiary qualifications in business administration or a related field are preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team in a professional and positive manner.
