Job summary

Cairns Regional Council is seeking an accomplished People and Safety leader to integrate workforce strategy, culture, capability and wellbeing with safety and payroll in an integrated portfolio. Reporting to the Director People & Organisational Performance, you will provide strategic advice to the Executive Leadership Team and lead services that help employees, leaders and the organisation succeed.

• Senior leadership experience in a complex organisation.
• Credible industrial-relations capability and safety knowledge.
• Ability to connect people strategy with safety and workforce capability.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement people, safety and culture strategies aligned with organisational priorities.
• Advise executive leaders on workforce planning, organisational design, capability and risks.
• Lead industrial and employee relations, including enterprise bargaining and union engagement.
• Guide workforce attraction, recruitment, talent management and succession planning.
• Lead workplace health and safety strategy, systems, assurance and reporting.
• Oversee payroll governance, internal controls and workforce reporting.
• Strengthen learning, leadership development and employment pathways.
• Coach multidisciplinary teams and establish clear responsibilities.
