Job summary

Department of Employment and Workplace Relations in Canberra seeks a Senior Executive Service Band 2 leader to shape its direction and position the department for what's next.

You will work across policy, programs, service delivery and regulation, guiding strategy, governance and enterprise transformation while building leadership depth and driving evidence‑based decisions for the nation’s workforce and economy.

Responsibilities

• See the system - interpret the external environment, identify patterns, dependencies and strategic risks for DEWR.
• Shape policy and strategic choices; frame complex issues for Ministers and executives with credible alternatives.
• Create coherence across policy, delivery, regulation, people, technology and partnerships.
• Turn strategy into outcomes at scale; lead a high-performing leadership cohort to move initiatives into delivery.
• Lead beyond organisational boundaries; build coalitions across APS, jurisdictions, industry and communities.
• Drive system-level change to support Closing the Gap and embed First Nations perspectives in decision-making.
• Lead transformation and adapt the organisation; foster innovation while maintaining delivery of priorities.
• Build institutional capability; strengthen leadership depth and data/digital capabilities.
• Set the tone for enterprise leadership; model integrity, courage and inclusive governance.
