  • Provide strategic and operational leadership to drive audit quality, enhance performance and achieve operational outcomes and organisational objectives
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, fostering collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement across the Northern Territory public sector

The Northern Territory Auditor-General's Office (NTAGO) is seeking a strategic and innovative audit leader to fill the newly established role of Executive Director Audit Services.

NTAGO undertakes audits of public sector entities, including government businesses in the Northern Territory. As an independent statutory officer, the Auditor-General plays a critical role in promoting transparency, accountability, and improved performance across the Northern Territory public sector. NTAGO operates under a fully outsourced delivery model. Established in 1982, it is the only audit office in Australia that contracts out the vast majority of its public sector audit tasks to private sector auditing firms.

Reporting directly to the Auditor-General, your primary objective is to support the Auditor-General in the discharge of their responsibilities under the Audit Act 1995 and other legislation.

Your key duties include providing strategic and operational leadership to a small team of audit staff and private sector auditing firms, leading the delivery of the annual audit program and parliamentary reporting, and providing oversight of complex and high-risk audit and assurance engagements.

The role requires an innovative leader who can translate organisational priorities into coordinated and outcome-driven initiatives, ensure methodologies and quality assurance frameworks are robust, and build strong relationships with stakeholders of various levels in order to advance the objectives of NTAGO.

To be successful, you will bring:

  • Senior-level audit experience supported by strong technical and practical expertise, with the ability to apply professional knowledge across a diverse portfolio of audit clients, including in the public sector.
  • Demonstrated executive leadership capability with a proven ability to build, develop and lead high-performing teams.
  • Strong strategic, analytical and critical thinking skills, with experience contributing to forward planning and executive decision-making.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills and a demonstrated ability to influence and drive positive change.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and current membership of a recognised professional accounting or auditing body.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced audit professional seeking a role with significant influence and purpose.

NTAGO offers a competitive executive remuneration package, five weeks annual leave, professional development support, secondment opportunities across the Northern Territory Public Sector and collaboration opportunities with audit offices across Australia.
