Job summary

Barkly Engineering in Mount Isa invites applications for an estimating/quoting, drafting and procurement coordination role. The successful candidate will review customer enquiries and specifications, prepare accurate quotations and tenders, and create workshop drawings using CAD software.

You will coordinate sourcing of materials and subcontracted services, liaising with tradespeople and suppliers to ensure timely delivery and profitable outcomes.

Qualifications

• Trade background in fitting, machining, boilermaking, or fabrication.

Job description

This role combines estimating/quoting, technical drafting, and procurement coordination for engineering and fabrication works. You will review customer enquiries and technical specifications, prepare accurate quotations and tenders, create workshop drawings using CAD software, and coordinate the sourcing of materials and subcontracted services. The role requires practical knowledge of how engineering/fabrication work is completed and the ability to liaise effectively with tradespeople and suppliers.

Key responsibilities

Review customer enquiries, drawings, specifications and scopes of work

Clarify incomplete technical or commercial requirements

Estimate labour, materials, consumables, freight, mobilisation and subcontract services

Estimate & Quote machining, fabrication, welding, line boring, repair and field service activities

Prepare accurate quotations and tenders supporting profitable business outcomes

Read and interpret engineering, fabrication and machining drawings

Prepare and revise workshop drawings using CAD software

Source materials, components, consumables and subcontracted services

Obtain competitive supplier quotations and raise purchase orders

Monitor outstanding purchase orders and supplier delivery dates

About you

A relevant trade background, particularly in fitting and machining, boilermaking or fabrication, mechanical maintenance, or industrial manufacturing or repair

Comfortable discussing jobs with tradespeople and understanding fabrication or repair processes

Able to review drawings and convert technical information into accurate and commercially viable quotations

Experience or qualifications in engineering drafting, mechanical engineering, estimating, procurement or supply chain, project management, CAD, ERP or job-management systems will be advantageous

Experience in mining or mining-services environments will be advantageous
