Job summary

Brema Group, based in Canberra, is seeking a professional to lead construction estimating, contract administration and commercial management across demolition and civil earthworks projects.

You will prepare Bills of Quantities, price schedules, and tender submissions, negotiating with clients and subcontractors to secure favorable outcomes while ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards.

Qualifications

  • Experience in construction estimating, contract administration and commercial management is essential.
  • Experience in demolition and civil earthworks is advantageous.
  • Required cards: White Card, Asbestos Awareness, Crystalline Silica Exposure Prevention.
  • Proficient knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook; knowledge of MS Project is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, high attention to detail, and ability to prioritise under heavy workloads.
  • Formal training in quantity surveying, estimating, building and construction, and project management is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Review tender documents, specifications, geotechnical reports, and surveys during tender stage.
  • Prepare Bills of Quantities and pricing schedules for demolition, structural dismantling, stripping, and waste disposal.
  • Solicit and analyse subcontractor and supplier tender quotes.
  • Prepare RFI requests, coordinate site inspections, and compile scopes of work.
  • Prepare tender submissions with formal letters addressing client criteria and safety documentation.
  • Negotiate and finalise contracts with clients with GM oversight.
  • Administer and enforce head contracts and subcontracts; manage notices and risk allocation.
  • Draft and execute subcontractor, supply, and plant hire agreements.
  • Establish project cost control; monitor budgets and produce WIP/Cash flow reports.
  • Manage variations, pricing, and EOT claims with prolongation and disruption costs.

Job description

Key responsibilities

Review and assess Request for Tender documents, specifications, geotechnical reports, and hazardous material surveys during the tender stage

Perform accurate quantity take-offs and prepare comprehensive Bills of Quantities and pricing schedules for demolition scopes, structural dismantling, soft stripping, and waste disposal

Solicit, review, analyse, and rank subcontractor and supplier tender quotations

Prepare and submit Requests for Information to clients, coordinate site inspections, and compile subcontractor and supplier scopes of work

Prepare tender submission documents, including formal tender letters addressing the client's criteria, programs, and Quality, Safety, and Environment documentation

Negotiate and finalise contracts with clients in consultation with the General Manager

Administer, interpret, and enforce head contracts and subcontracts, ensuring strict compliance with notification periods, time bars, indemnity clauses, and risk allocation provisions

Draft, negotiate, and execute subcontractor agreements, supply contracts, and plant hire agreements

Establish and maintain project cost control systems, monitoring actual expenditure against approved budgets and prepare monthly Work in Progress reports, cost-to-complete forecasts, and cash flow projections

Manage variation identification, pricing, and submission, and compile Extension of Time claims alongside associated prolongation and disruption costs

About you

Demonstrated professional experience in construction estimating, contract administration, and commercial management is required

Experience within the demolition and civil earthworks industry is considered a distinct advantage

Current driver's licence, General Construction Induction (White Card), Asbestos Awareness, and Crystalline Silica Exposure Prevention cards will be required

Proficient knowledge and advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook are required

Knowledge and experience in Microsoft Project and specialist estimating software would be an advantage

High level of written and verbal communication skills is required

High attention to detail, strong arithmetic skills, team collaboration, and the ability to self-motivate and prioritise during heavy workloads are essential

Formal training in quantity surveying, estimating, building and construction, project management, and associated software is highly desirable
