Job summary

ConnectYou is partnering with a growing electrical contractor to recruit an experienced Electrical Estimator for tendering and pre-contract delivery of major power and energy infrastructure projects.

This hands-on role focuses on estimating from first principles across HV scopes, including substations, switchyards and data centres. You will collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers and senior leaders to develop competitive tenders and maintain estimating databases.

Qualifications

• Electrical estimating experience within medium- or high-voltage infrastructure.
• Experience with substations, switchyards, data centres, BESS and energy infrastructure.
• Ability to undertake first-principles estimating rather than relying on standard schedules or preset rates.
• Strong understanding of electrical construction methodologies, labour requirements, materials and project sequencing.
• Ability to interpret electrical drawings, specifications, single-line diagrams and tender documentation.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed electrical estimates and tender submissions for medium and high-voltage infrastructure projects.
• Develop estimates from first principles, including labour, materials, equipment, subcontractors and project delivery costs.
• Review drawings, specifications, scopes of work and tender documentation to identify project requirements and risks.
• Undertake quantity take-offs and prepare detailed bills of quantities and pricing schedules.
• Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Develop pricing across HV electrical scopes including switchgear, substations, switchyards, cabling, control systems, testing and commissioning.
• Identify commercial, technical and delivery risks throughout the tender process.
• Work closely with Project Managers, Engineers and senior leadership to develop practical and competitive project solutions.
• Assist with tender clarifications, exclusions, qualifications and handover of successful projects to the delivery team.
• Maintain estimating databases, historical cost information and supplier relationships.
• Support the continued development and improvement of estimating systems and processes as the business grows.

This is a hands-on estimating role suited to someone with solid MV and HV electrical experience who is confident building detailed estimates from the ground up. You will work closely with engineering and project delivery teams to review upcoming opportunities, understand scope and technical requirements, and prepare accurate, competitive tenders across a growing pipeline of high-voltage infrastructure projects.

Key Requirements

• Demonstrated electrical estimating experience within medium or high-voltage infrastructure.
• Strong exposure to projects operating from approximately 11kV and above.
• Experience across areas such as substations, switchyards, data centres, BESS, energy infrastructure, industrial electrical projects or testing and commissioning will be highly regarded.
• Proven ability to undertake first-principles estimating rather than relying solely on standard schedules or pre-set rates.
• Strong understanding of electrical construction methodologies, labour requirements, materials and project sequencing.
• Ability to interpret electrical drawings, specifications, single-line diagrams and tender documentation.
• Strong commercial awareness with the ability to identify project risks, opportunities and cost drivers.
• Confident working independently and taking ownership of tenders from initial review through to submission.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills when dealing with suppliers, subcontractors, engineers and project teams.
• Comfortable working within a growing business where flexibility, initiative and a hands‑on approach are valued.

Qualifications

• Relevant qualification within Electrical Engineering, Electrical Trade, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
