Job summary

Built Strong Constructions in Melbourne is seeking an experienced Estimator to prepare accurate cost estimates and tender submissions for demolition, reconfiguration and maintenance projects.

You’ll work closely with Directors, project and site teams, and subcontractors to ensure priced work is commercially sound, deliverable and compliant. This role offers autonomy and opportunities to shape project pricing strategies.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as an Estimator in demolition, construction or building maintenance.
• Strong understanding of costing principles and construction methods.
• Proficiency with estimating software (Buildxact, Cubit, PlanSwift) and Excel.
• Knowledge of Victorian WHS/OHS legislation as it applies to construction and demolition work.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and negotiation skills.
• A relevant trade, quantity surveying, construction management or engineering qualification.

Responsibilities

• Review tender documents, drawings and specifications to prepare accurate cost estimates.
• Prepare quantity take-offs and cost breakdowns for labour, materials, plant and subcontractors.
• Source and evaluate quotes from subcontractors and suppliers; negotiate pricing.
• Prepare and submit tender documentation within client deadlines.
• Conduct site visits and measurements to inform pricing accuracy.
• Monitor knowledge of material, labour and subcontractor costs; update estimates.
• Identify and price risks, contingencies and value-engineering opportunities.
• Liaise with Directors, project managers and site teams to confirm pricing assumptions.
• Incorporate WHS requirements and safe work methods into cost estimates.
• Ensure tenders comply with contract conditions and applicable codes.

About The Role

Built Strong is looking for an experienced Estimator to prepare accurate, competitive cost estimates and tender submissions for our demolition, reconfiguration and building maintenance projects. You’ll work closely with our Directors, project and site teams, and subcontractors and suppliers to ensure priced work is commercially sound, deliverable and compliant - supporting our reputation for precision outcomes and disciplined execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Review tender documentation, drawings, scopes of work and specifications to prepare accurate cost estimates
• Prepare detailed quantity take-offs and cost breakdowns for labour, materials, plant and subcontractor works
• Source and evaluate quotes from subcontractors and suppliers, negotiating competitive pricing
• Prepare and submit tender and quotation documentation within client deadlines
• Conduct site visits and measure-ups to inform accurate pricing
• Monitor and maintain up-to-date knowledge of material, labour and subcontractor costs
• Identify and price project risks, contingencies and value-engineering opportunities
• Liaise with Directors, project managers and site teams to clarify scope and confirm pricing assumptions
• Incorporate WHS requirements and safe work methodology considerations into cost estimates and project staging
• Ensure estimates and tenders comply with relevant contract conditions, Australian Standards and applicable codes

Who We Are Looking For

• Proven experience as an Estimator within the demolition, construction or building maintenance industry
• Sound understanding of construction methods, materials and costing principles
• Proficiency with estimating software (e.g. Buildxact, Cubit or PlanSwift) and Microsoft Excel
• Sound working knowledge of Victorian WHS/OHS legislation as it applies to construction and demolition work
• Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills, with high attention to detail
• Excellent written and verbal communication and negotiation skills
• A relevant trade, quantity surveying, construction management or engineering qualification

• Salary of $90,000 - $115,000 plus superannuation, dependent on experience
