Job summary

Argo Natural Resources is seeking an ERZ Controller Lead/Undermanager to lead from the front and ensure safe, compliant, productive underground operations in Queensland. This hands-on role includes supervision of Deputies and Supervisors, resource coordination, and statutory oversight.

You will drive safety and performance, mentor teams, and make decisive operational decisions in a fast-paced mining environment. A strong leadership presence and clear communication are essential.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years’ ERZ Controller Lead/Undermanager experience.
• Certificate of Competency for ERZ Controller; mutual recognition if NSW.
• G1, G8, G9 competencies; willingness to obtain G2.
• Strong supervisory and people-development skills.
• Sound knowledge of coal mining legislation, safety systems and audits.
• Experience across both production and technical mining environments.
• Safety-focused, results-driven and highly organized with accountability.
• Excellent written and verbal communication across all levels.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop Deputies and Supervisors, coordinate people and resources.
• Manage day-to-day underground operations, statutory oversight and shift direction.
• Drive safety and performance standards; ensure audit readiness.
• Deliver decisions, build teams and drive results in a dynamic underground environment.
• Act as the Mine Manager in the absence of the Mine Manager.

ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

We’re looking for an experienced ERZ Controller Lead/ Undermanager to lead from the front and play a critical role in the safe, compliant and productive operation of our underground mine. This is a hands‑on leadership position with responsibility for day-to-day operations, statutory oversight and assuming control of the mine in the absence of the Mine Manager.

You’ll lead and develop Deputies and Supervisors, coordinate people and resources, manage operational challenges, drive safety and performance standards, and ensure every shift starts and finishes with clear direction. If you’re a visible leader who can make sound decisions, build strong teams and deliver results in a dynamic underground environment, we want to hear from you.

ABOUT YOU

3–5 years’ experience in a similar ERZ Controller Lead/ Undermanager role.

Current Deputy/ERZ Controller Certificate of Competency; NSW holders must be willing to obtain Mutual Recognition.

G1, G8 and G9 (formerly S1, S2, S3) and G2 competencies, or willingness to obtain.

Strong supervisory, leadership and people-development skills, with the ability to lead and mentor Deputies and Supervisors.

Sound knowledge of coal mining legislation, statutory requirements, Safety and Health Management Systems and audit processes.

Experience across both production and technical mining environments.

A safety-focused, results-driven and highly organised approach, with strong attention to detail and personal accountability.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with employees at all levels.
