Job summary

Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) is expanding its Australian Equity Research team in Sydney or Melbourne and seeks candidates with a strong interest in financial markets. The associate role focuses on fundamental analysis of Australian companies across the Global Industrials sector, with potential to lead coverage as you grow.

You will build and update financial models in Excel, forecast earnings, value firms using DCF and multiples, and prepare high-quality research reports while developing industry

Qualifications

• Strong interest in equity markets and finance.
• Willingness to learn and analyse industry sectors and companies.
• Undergraduate degree in Business, Commerce, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science or similar field.
• Minimum 2-3 years' full-time work experience, preferably in an equity research role or corporate finance role at a bank, stockbroking firm, investment fund or accounting firm.
• Excellent writing and communications skills with the ability to interact with CEO, CFO and IR personnel of the companies under coverage.
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong skills across Microsoft Office applications – Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Ability to source data and concisely summarise information from multiple sources.
• Ability to work independently and under pressure in a high paced environment.
• Flexibility to travel when required.

Responsibilities

• Understand what companies under coverage do and the market environment.
• Build and update company financial models in Excel.
• Link core items of financial statements and forecast future earnings.
• Update historical financials from public data sources.
• Value companies using DCF, comparables and multiples.
• Generate high quality research reports and presentations.
• Build and maintain databases of key industry data.
• Support Lead Analyst to respond to client queries.
• Identify risks including ESG, macro, commodity, and geopolitical factors.
• Establish industry contacts to inform company views.
