Job summary

Mount Isa Special School invites applications for a Schools Officer, Grounds and Facilities. The role supports the Principal, Business Manager or delegate by delivering high-level grounds and facilities services across the school site in a remote Queensland setting.

You will maintain grounds, perform routine maintenance, operate equipment and assist with events, store management and site security. Applications from shortlisting agencies are not accepted and the role may be extended up to 12

• Manage stores, supplies, stocktaking and school assets.
• Support school security, including opening and locking buildings.
• Manage waste and general cleanliness of grounds and facilities.
• Maintain safe work practices and ensure equipment, chemicals and materials are safely handled.
• Liaise with contractors and tradespeople regarding maintenance requirements.

About us

Mount Isa Special School is set amongst the beautiful rugged red rolling hills with the industrial backdrop of a major Queensland mine operation. We are the most remote and rural special school in Queensland. Our school provides highly individualised programs based on the Australian Curriculum, for all students who are diagnosed with an intellectual disability and or multiple disabilities including physical, visual and hearing impairments and autistic spectrum disorders. Your opportunity

• As the Schools Officer, Grounds and Facilities you will contribute to the efficient and effective operation and environment of the school by providing a high level of grounds and facilities to the Principal, Business Manager or nominated delegate.
• You will perform a range of activities to ensure that the school is maintained to a high standard; follow set instructions; and have independence to perform a variety of day-to-day services that are routine in nature. However, the role receives regular supervision when undertaking duties that are non-routine in nature.
• This position forms part of a talent pool for upcoming part time and/or relief opportunities.
