Job summary

BHP seeks an experienced Environmental Specialist to join the Environment & Sustainability team supporting WAIO operations on a permanent full-time basis.

Reporting to the Environment Superintendent, the role focuses on delivering environmental performance, regulatory compliance and risk management, providing technical expertise and building environmental capability across site teams.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience in environmental management within mining, heavy industry or environmental consulting.
• Knowledge of State and Commonwealth environmental legislation, approvals, and compliance requirements.
• Experience using GIS applications and the Microsoft Office suite to analyse data and prepare reports.
• A current Western Australian C Class driver's licence.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert environmental advice to operational teams through the interpretation of environmental approvals, legislation and technical data.
• Support environmental risk management by providing governance, assurance and coaching to operational leaders on the effective implementation of environmental controls.
• Drive environmental performance improvement through the development and delivery of environmental initiatives and projects.
• Scope, coordinate and review environmental monitoring programs, including biodiversity monitoring and compliance requirements.
• Lead the reporting and investigation of environmental incidents and ensure corrective actions are effectively implemented.
• Prepare high-quality technical reports, regulatory submissions and stakeholder communications.
