Job summary

Sitzler HR & Payroll in Darwin seeks an experienced Environmental Manager to lead the site’s environmental initiatives and drive continuous improvement across operations. You will maintain the Environmental Management System and provide technical guidance to project teams and HSE personnel.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science/Management (or related) and at least ten years in construction, with strong knowledge of environmental legislation and ISO 14001.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or Environmental Management or related discipline.
  • Ten years’ experience in construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of Commonwealth, State and Territory environmental legislation.
  • ISO 14001 knowledge.
  • Experience preparing Construction Environmental Management Plans.
  • Experience conducting environmental audits, inspections and incident investigations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and continuously improving the Environmental Management System in accordance with legislative, certification, regulatory and client requirements.
  • Providing environmental leadership, technical advice, mentoring and guidance to project teams, HSE personnel and the wider business.
  • Preparing and maintaining Project Environmental Management Plans for tenders and active projects.
  • Interpreting environmental legislation, standards and client requirements to identify risks and improvement opportunities.
  • Facilitating environmental risk assessments and ensuring appropriate controls are implemented and monitored.
  • Conducting workplace inspections, environmental monitoring and internal audits.
  • Leading environmental incident investigations and monitoring corrective actions through to close-out.
  • Preparing internal and external environmental compliance and performance reports.
  • Developing and delivering project-specific environmental inductions and workforce training.
  • Providing environmental input into tenders, design reviews, project handovers, site establishment and project close-out.
  • Supporting project teams with environmental emergency response, site investigations and compliance matters.

The Role

Your key responsibilities will include:

About You

You will be a proactive and motivated environmental professional with the ability to translate complex compliance obligations into practical solutions for construction teams.

Ideally, you will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • A minimum of ten years’ experience within the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of Commonwealth, State and Territory environmental legislation.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of ISO 14001.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing Construction Environmental Management Plans.
  • Experience conducting environmental audits, inspections and incident investigations.
  • The ability to access and travel to project workplaces as required.
