Job summary

Inverell Shire Council is seeking a Compliance Officer to support the Environmental Services Division in delivering environmental compliance and management functions for the Inverell community. The role includes field support, animal control duties, litter/pollution investigations, and ongoing vocational training as a Council Ranger and Biosecurity functions.

Remuneration ranges from $1,118.30 to $1,194.12 gross per week, with an on-call allowance up to $225 per week when required.

Qualifications

• NSW Higher School Certificate or equivalent.
• NSW Class C Drivers Licence.
• NSW Firearms Licence (Category A and Category B).
• Demonstrated customer service experience.
• Ability to operate computers and other office equipment.
• Understanding of Work Health and Safety Regulations.
• Willingness to undertake training as Council Ranger and Biosecurity functions.
• Demonstrated ability to resolve matters where competing priorities or conflict exists.
• SafeWork NSW General Construction Induction card ('White Card').
• Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services).
• Certificate IV in Animal Control & Regulation.
• Certificate IV in Local Government Investigation.
• Understanding of chemical application procedures relating to pesticides and herbicides.
• Demonstrated ability to handle companion animals with confidence.
• SEINS Parking Certificate.
• Accreditation for microchipping companion animals.
• Completion of any training in relation to environmental compliance and management functions.

Responsibilities

• Assist administrative/ technical staff with field enquiries.
• Rural Addressing post location and erection.
• MGB deliveries and investigation regarding damage complaints.
• Arrange minor building maintenance.
• Companion animal complaints and impounding.
• Assist in euthanasia and micro chipping of animals.
• Nuisance complaint investigation (overgrown vegetation, barking dogs, pollution matters, etc).
• Routine environmental monitoring of landfills and other waste facilities.
• Participate in after hours Compliance call out roster.
• Shopping trolley patrols and complaint investigation.
• Successfully undertake required vocational training.
• Littering patrols and investigations.
• General assistance to the Biosecurity Officer including priority weeds inspection and control.
• Assist Parks & Gardens Section and Civil Engineering Branch crews within skill range as required from time to time.
• Car parking patrols and regulate compliance of street activities.
• Development compliance monitoring and advice to Council’s Development Services staff.
• Other duties compatible with the employee's skills competence and training.
