Job summary

Osborne Richardson is partnering with a NSW regional council to appoint a Compliance Officer (Ranger) to deliver frontline customer service, compliance and enforcement across the shire. This is a genuinely varied role — no two days look the same.

You will cover everything from animal management and local law compliance through to littering, parking, footpath obstructions and building site issues, all while promoting voluntary compliance and maintaining strong community relationships.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in a similar compliance role.
• Solid understanding of the infringement system and local government legislation.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to adapt to varying workloads.
• Excellent customer service skills with tact and diplomacy.
• High attention to detail and good analytical/problem-solving.
• Strong verbal and written communication, negotiation and conflict resolution.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
• Current Class C driver's licence.

Responsibilities

• Seizing and impounding animals, maintaining the pound, and investigating attacks, nuisance or roaming animals.
• Promoting responsible pet ownership and voluntary compliance through proactive customer service.
• Undertaking patrols and inspections covering bushfire, animal control, litter and verge hazards.
• Investigating suspected compliance breaches and enforcing local laws and Acts.
• Preparing briefs of evidence and giving evidence in court when required.
• Arranging clean-up of unauthorised waste disposal.
• Contributing to a positive team culture across departments.

About the Role

• Seizing and impounding animals, maintaining the pound, and investigating attacks, nuisance complaints and roaming animals
• Promoting responsible pet ownership and voluntary compliance through proactive customer service
• Undertaking foot and vehicle patrols and inspections covering bushfire, animal control, abandoned vehicles, verge hazards and unauthorised litter
• Investigating suspected and reported compliance breaches and enforcing local laws and statutory Acts
• Preparing and administering briefs of evidence, and giving evidence in legal proceedings when required
• Arranging clean-up of unauthorised waste disposal
• Contributing to a positive, collaborative team culture across departments

About You

• Extensive experience in a similar compliance role
• Solid understanding of the infringement system, associated court processes and relevant local government legislation
• Strong organisational skills, with the flexibility to adapt to fluctuating workloads and shifting priorities
• Excellent customer service skills, with tact and diplomacy in difficult situations
• High attention to detail, sound analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong verbal and written communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
• Confident across Microsoft Office applications
• Current Class C driver's licence
