Job summary

Westpac Group is seeking hands-on AI Engineers to design, code, test and operationalise AI applications for an enterprise-scale environment. You will join the Data, Digital & AI function and work with the Chief AI Innovation Office to deliver secure AI across technology, data, risk and product teams.

You will design and ship production‑ready AI services, integrate models, and build robust pipelines with emphasis on safety, privacy and governance in a regulated setting.

Qualifications

• Hands-on AI engineering in large, regulated environments.
• Ability to engage with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Qualifications in tech, engineering or data discipline, or equivalent.
• Strong backend and production‑systems experience.
• Experience operationalising AI services beyond prototypes.
• Knowledge of RAG, embeddings and model evaluation.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and ship production-ready AI applications and services.
• Integrate foundation models and AI services into secure workflows.
• Build pipelines for prompt management, model invocation, grounding and evaluation.
• Embed security, privacy and responsible AI guardrails from design to delivery.
• Implement testing, monitoring, and cost optimization for AI workloads.
• Collaborate with product, data, risk and security teams to prioritise work.
• Balance speed of experimentation with engineering quality and safety.
