Job summary

IAG Defence & National Security (DNS) is seeking an experienced Technical Engineering Project Manager to lead planning, coordination and delivery management for a complex Defence program. Based in Symonston, ACT, you will work with a technical engineering team, Defence stakeholders and industry partners to achieve milestones while complying with export control requirements.

You will oversee budget, schedules and governance reporting, coordinate prototyping and test events, and ensure alignment

The Role

We're looking for an experienced Technical Engineering Project Manager to lead planning, coordination and delivery management activities for a complex Defence engineering and integration program. This is a great opportunity for a senior PM to bring genuine technical depth to a program involving systems integration, standards implementation and test and evaluation activities. You'll work closely with a technical engineering team, Defence stakeholders and industry to deliver engineering outcomes and integration milestones against approved plans and governance arrangements. The work involves handling of controlled technical information, so demonstrated ability to comply with export control requirements around access, storage and disclosure is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the project management plan, including WBS, schedule, risk and stakeholder management
• Identify and manage project-related risk, escalating where it may impact schedules or business outcomes
• Coordinate engineering, integration, assurance and verification activities delivered by the program's workforce
• Manage delivery schedules, dependencies and risks associated with engineering activities
• Ensure engineering reviews, technical governance forums and project milestones are planned, coordinated and tracked
• Coordinate project reporting for technical risks, engineering issues and integration activities
• Support delivery of engineering assurance and standards implementation outcomes
• Coordinate stakeholder engagement activities with Defence stakeholders, industry partners and external stakeholders
• Manage project budget, schedule, resources and governance reporting
• Coordinate prototyping activities and associated test and evaluation events

Required

• Master's Degree (or higher) in Project Management, Program Management, Engineering Management, Business Administration (MBA), Management Studies or a closely related discipline
• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Applied Science, Computer Science, Systems Science or an equivalent technical discipline
• Recognised professional project management accreditation (e.g. PMP, CPPM, CPPP, PRINCE2 Practitioner, MSP Practitioner) or immediate eligibility to obtain one
• Minimum 10 years' industry experience in Engineering or Project Management, preferably in ICT environments
• Demonstrated experience managing complex engineering, systems integration, interoperability, standards implementation, architecture, V&V or capability assurance projects
• Advanced project management accreditation (e.g. AIPM, PMI, PRINCE2, MSP, MoP) highly regarded
• Experience delivering projects within SEMP, TEMP or equivalent engineering governance frameworks highly regarded
• Experience in Defence acquisition, sustainment, systems engineering, integration, test and evaluation, communications, ICT or battle management environments highly regarded
• Experience managing projects involving open architectures, interoperability standards, military sensor systems or software-enabled capability systems highly regarded
• Knowledge of PMBOK, PMMv2, Agile delivery methodologies and Defence project governance frameworks highly regarded
• Extensive experience providing strategic advice to senior Defence, APS, military and industry stakeholders highly regarded

Engagement Details

• Full-time onsite at Symonston, ACT — limited case‑case WFH may be considered, though full‑time attendance is preferred
