Job summary

Defence Australia in Canberra is seeking an Engineering Project Manager to lead delivery for the Integrated Sensor Architecture national office. You will coordinate ISANO activities with the Systems Engineer, industry partners and Defence stakeholders to meet milestones under AMP06006.

The role requires complex engineering project management, strong governance and risk skills, plus NV1 eligibility. Full-time onsite at Symonston ACT with limited remote options may be considered.

Qualifications

• Master Degree (or higher) in Project/Engineering/Business discipline.
• Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Applied Science, CS, or equivalent.
• Hold or eligible for recognised PM accreditation (PMP/PRINCE2/ MSP).
• 15+ years of industry experience in engineering or project management.
• Experience managing complex engineering/UICT/Defence projects.
• Hold or be eligible for NV1 security clearance.

• Develop and maintain AMP06006 Stage 2 PM plan with WBS, schedule and risk management.

Job Details

The Land Network Integration Centre is establishing the Integrated Sensor Architecture National Office under Project AMP06006. The office will support the integration and adoption of the US-developed Integrated Sensor Architecture data standard across Land-domain tactical networks.

The successful Engineering Project Manager will plan, coordinate, govern and manage the delivery activities required to establish the national office. Working closely with the ISANO Systems Engineer, technical teams, industry and other stakeholders, the role will ensure engineering outcomes, technical assurance activities, integration milestones and project objectives are delivered in accordance with approved plans and governance arrangements.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the AMP06006 Stage 2 project management plan, with specific attention to project WBS, schedule, risk and stakeholder management, in accordance with the AMP06006 Business Case and LNIC requirements.
• Identify and manage project-related risks, escalating matters that may affect schedules or LNIC business outcomes.
• Coordinate engineering, integration, assurance and verification activities delivered by the ISANO workforce.
• Manage delivery schedules, dependencies and risks associated with engineering activities under AMP06006.
• Plan, coordinate and track engineering reviews, technical governance forums and project milestones.
• Coordinate reporting on technical risks, engineering issues and integration activities.
• Support the Systems Engineer and SO2 Modelling and Standards in delivering engineering assurance and standards implementation outcomes.
• Coordinate stakeholder engagement with capability projects, industry partners and external ISA stakeholders.
• Manage the project budget, schedule, resources and governance reporting.
• Coordinate prototyping activities and associated test and evaluation events.
• Produce and maintain required documentation, reports, technical artefacts and records.

About the Land Network Integration Centre

The Land Network Integration Centre advises and directs digital network integration efforts to maximise interoperability across Land, Joint and Coalition interfaces. Its multidisciplinary teams provide systems engineering, modelling, standards management, integration advice, technical assurance, testing and capability development support.

About ISANO

The Integrated Sensor Architecture National Office will act as the technical standards implementation manager for ISA. It will embed ISA requirements into projects and provide engineering, architecture and compliance guidance for the integration of sensors into tactical networks. The multidisciplinary office will also support test and evaluation, trials, verification and validation activities for ISA-compliant capabilities.

Selection Criteria

Mandatory Qualifications

• Master Degree (or higher) in any of the following: Project Management, Program Management, Engineering Management, Business Administration (MBA), Management Studies, or a closely related discipline relevant to the delivery of complex technology and engineering projects.
• Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Applied Science, Computer Science, Systems Science or equivalent technical discipline.
• Hold, or be able to demonstrate immediate eligibility to obtain, a recognised professional project management accreditation such as PMP, CPPM, CPPP, PRINCE2 Practitioner, MSP Practitioner or equivalent.
• Demonstrated minimum of 15 years of Industry experience in Engineering or Project Management, preferably in ICT environments
• Demonstrated experience managing complex engineering, systems integration, ICT, C4I or Defence capability projects, preferably in a military C4 environment.
• Hold, or be eligible to obtain and maintain an NV1 security clearance (minimum), with the ability to obtain and maintain any higher clearance required by Defence.
• Complete any mandatory Defence or role‑specific training requirements.

Highly Desirable

• Advanced project management accreditation through AIPM, PMI, PRINCE2, MSP, MoP or equivalent professional bodies.
• Demonstrated experience managing Defence systems integration, interoperability, standards implementation, architecture, verification and validation, or capability assurance projects.
• Demonstrated experience delivering projects within Systems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP), Test and Evaluation Master Plan (TEMP), or equivalent engineering governance frameworks.
• Demonstrated experience in Defence acquisition, sustainment, systems engineering, integration, test and evaluation, communications, ICT, battle management or C4I environments.
• Experience managing projects involving open architectures, interoperability standards, military sensor systems, tactical communications networks, or software‑enabled capability systems.
• Demonstrated knowledge of PMBOK, PMMv2, Agile delivery methodologies and Defence project governance frameworks.
• Extensive experience providing strategic advice to senior Defence, APS, military and industry stakeholders.
• Proven record of delivering complex engineering outcomes through multidisciplinary teams in high‑risk or technically complex environments.
