Job summary

Client 1 is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a high‑performing team delivering naval sustainment services for Defence projects. The role focuses on governance, budgeting, and meeting delivery milestones while ensuring safety, quality, and operability across engineering outputs.

You will guide technical direction, foster Lean improvements, and collaborate with government partners, maintaining schedules and capacity planning in alignment with strategic objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or systems engineering.
• Experience leading engineering sustainment teams in Defence.
• Ability to manage tight schedules and communicate with customers.
• Australian Citizenship is essential for clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Engineering department in line with strategic objectives, governance frameworks, and regulatory compliance.
• Manage the Engineering team, including budgeting, resourcing, and partnerships, to ensure capability aligns with business needs.
• Oversee the delivery of engineering outcomes, ensuring solutions meet requirements across safety, quality, operability, supportability, and cost.
• Control the engineering execution budget and schedule, ensuring all deliverables are completed within scope, time, and cost constraints.
• Maintain key departmental reports including schedules, capacity planning, performance metrics, and corrective actions to drive accountability.
• Provide technical leadership and foster a culture of continuous improvement, Lean principles, and compliance with evolving standards and regulations.

Our client specialises in naval systems for operational deployability and engineering services and is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager with experience across Defence sustainment for naval services to help build, grow and encourage a hard-working engineering team.
Those with engineering sustainment, leadership and a good understanding of government processes are encouraged to apply. Must be an Australian Citizen to be eligible for a Defence security clearance.
Permanent full-time.

Role and responsibilities:
