Job summary

Defence West, based in Australia, seeks an Engineering Manager to lead the engineering department for defence sustainment services. The role emphasizes strategic leadership, budgeting, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and customer requirements.

You will oversee delivery, drive continuous improvement, and manage schedules and resources to meet cost and time constraints while maintaining safety and quality across projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering at minimum.
• Experience leading engineering teams for sustainment in Defence.
• Ability to manage tight schedules and provide open feedback to customer needs.
• Supportive and constructive attitude towards leadership.
• Australian Citizenship is essential.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Engineering department in line with strategic objectives, governance frameworks, and regulatory compliance.
• Manage the Engineering team, including budgeting, resourcing, and partnerships, to ensure capability aligns with business needs.
• Oversee the delivery of engineering outcomes, ensuring solutions meet requirements across safety, quality, operability, supportability, and cost.
• Control the engineering execution budget and schedule, ensuring all deliverables are completed within scope, time, and cost constraints.
• Maintain key departmental reports including schedules, capacity planning, performance metrics, and corrective actions to drive accountability.
• Provide technical leadership and foster a culture of continuous improvement, Lean principles, and compliance with evolving standards and regulations.
