Refactor is partnering with a household Australian digital marketplace to hire an Engineering Manager who will own engineering execution across the platform. You’ll guide a small, experienced team through a modernisation journey while balancing architecture, delivery, and commercial priorities.

The role is based on the Gold Coast/Brisbane, hybrid with 2 days in office, and relocation assistance is available to support your move.

Qualifications

• You're an Engineering Manager or senior engineering leader with product-led technology experience.
• Experience across marketplaces, e-commerce, B2B SaaS or another customer-facing digital platform would translate well.
• Strong technical credibility across modern web engineering and cloud; not hunting for the world's most enthusiastic architecture astronaut.
• Commercial judgement matters; you’ll balance technical solutions with business needs.

Sometimes an Engineering Manager role means inheriting 30 people, sitting in meetings all day and slowly forgetting how software actually gets built.

This isn't that.

Refactor is exclusively partnering with a household Australian digital marketplace to find an Engineering Manager who can take genuine ownership of its technology and engineering function.

You’ll inherit a small, experienced engineering team and a successful platform that’s entering its next stage of evolution.

There’s legacy technology to progressively modernise, newer architecture to introduce and plenty of opportunity to decide where engineering can make the biggest commercial impact.

This isn’t a rebuild for the sake of a rebuild. They want someone pragmatic enough to know what to change, what to buy, what to build and what to leave alone. That’s a key theme from the brief.

What you’ll own

You’ll take responsibility for engineering execution across the platform, working closely with Product, Sales, commercial stakeholders and senior technology leaders.

You’ll be:

• Leading an established, distributed engineering team
• Driving the progressive modernisation of the platform
• Translating commercial priorities into sensible engineering decisions
• Working across modern web technologies, cloud and APIs
• Owning architecture, reliability, security and engineering quality
• Managing integrations across multiple business-critical platforms
• Working closely with Product to turn ideas into shipped outcomes
• Bringing a clear engineering perspective to senior stakeholders

The remit is deliberately broad. They need someone capable of moving between architecture, people leadership, delivery and commercial conversations without disappearing into any one of them.

You’re likely an Engineering Manager, Technical Lead or senior engineering leader from a product-led technology business.

Experience across marketplaces, e-commerce, B2B SaaS or another customer-facing digital platform would translate particularly well.

You’ll need strong technical credibility across modern web engineering and cloud, but we're not hunting for the world's most enthusiastic architecture astronaut.

Commercial judgement matters.

Sometimes the perfect technical solution isn't the right business solution.

You’ll know the difference.

You’ll also be comfortable inheriting an experienced team. This isn’t about arriving with a new org chart on day one. It’s about listening, earning credibility and then helping a good team get better.
