Job summary

iterate is a profitable, global technology company expanding its engineering leadership in Melbourne. We’re seeking a hands-on Senior Tech Lead / Engineering Manager to own architecture and delivery for a core product squad, act as a trusted deputy to the Head of Engineering, and set the standard for agentic AI-native development across the wider team.

You’ll influence beyond your squad, govern how AI tooling is adopted, mentor engineers at all levels, review code, and shape technical direction

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on Node.js/TypeScript background in production environments
• Real experience shipping agentic AI development workflows and governance around them.
• Proven leadership of cross-functional, multi-team delivery with stakeholders kept informed
• Experience leading technical design (RFCs, ADRs, architectural reviews) in an agile product team
• A genuine coaching mindset — you get energy from growing the people around you
• Nice to have: React/Next.js, GraphQL, AWS, exposure to SOC2/PCI DSS compliance frameworks

Responsibilities

• Own architecture, technical design, and delivery for your squad, writing RFCs/ADRs and leading incident response when things break
• Lead the adoption of agentic AI development practices across the org
• Coach and grow engineers at all levels, raising the quality bar through design reviews and proactive standards
• Partner closely with product and design to translate technical tradeoffs into business outcomes
• Act as deputy to the Head of Engineering in cross-functional forums

Job description

A profitable, global technology company is entering its next phase of growth — and investing seriously in engineering leadership to get there. We're looking for a hands-on Senior Tech Lead / Engineering Manager to own architecture and delivery for a core product squad, act as a trusted right hand to the Head of Engineering, and set the standard for agentic AI-native development across the wider engineering team.

This isn't a typical leadership role. You'll be hands-on enough to shape technical direction and review code, but your influence won't stop at your own squad — you'll help govern how AI tooling is adopted org-wide, mentor engineers at every level, and be a genuine thought leader on how modern engineering teams should build and ship.

What you'll do

• Own architecture, technical design, and delivery for your squad, writing RFCs/ADRs and leading incident response when things break
• Lead the adoption of agentic AI development practices — not as a tool user, but as a practitioner shaping how the team works with AI agents, spec-driven development, and AI-assisted code review
• Coach and grow engineers at all levels, raising the quality bar through design reviews and proactive standards
• Partner closely with product and design to translate technical tradeoffs into business outcomes
• Act as a trusted deputy to the Head of Engineering in cross-functional forums
