Job summary

Department of Defence in Melbourne seeks an Engineering Professional Communications Manager to lead complex engineering delivery within a large, integrated workforce. The role requires in-depth knowledge of legislative frameworks, government decision-making, and Defence policy, with responsibility for strategic outcomes.

You will manage multi-stakeholder projects, drive capability improvement, and oversee procurement and contract activities in a dynamic APS environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Engineering from an Australian institution or equivalent recognized by Washington Accord.
• Possibility to attain Chartered Professional Engineer or similar within 12 months.

As an Engineering Professional Communications Manager, you will be accountable under broad direction to perform and achieve complex to very complex specialist engineering work within an integrated workforce. You will require an in-depth knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements. The role will require complex problem solving, risk and issues management and may include detailed or sensitive projects, which impact on strategic, political or operational outcomes for Defence.

The main responsibilities for the Engineering Professional Communications Manager role are:

• Develop and implement work plans, set performance indicators, and review individual, team performance, focusing on identifying opportunities for building team capability and continuous improvement.
• Set work that aligns with the strategic objectives and communicate expected outcomes.
• Lead and manage the successful delivery of complex projects within scope, time and budget.
• Effectively manage all stakeholders both internal and external
• Develop productive and effective relationships with suppliers and other government agencies.
• Lead and facilitate contract management and procurement activities, ensuring compliance with legislative and procurement policies, processes and procedures.
