Job summary

AEMO, Australia’s independent energy system and market operator, is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join the Congestion and Grid Engineering team. You will model generators and networks in the EMS for the NEM and WEM, contributing to SCADA and AGC testing to ensure grids operate securely and reliably.

You will work with the Engineering Tech Lead and Manager to perform EMS updates and support commissioning activities, applying power system knowledge to solve complex problems in a dynamic energy

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a power systems focus.
• Experience in energy sector or similar complex infrastructure.
• Experience with electrical power system modelling and analysis tools such as SCADA/EMS.
• Ability to apply power system knowledge to solve technical problems.

Responsibilities

• Update AEMO’s EMS to reflect power system changes due to generators, loads, batteries and network Augmentation.
• Assist with commissioning/registration of generating plant including SCADA list approval and point-to-point testing.

About The Role

AEMO’s Congestion and Grid Engineering team provides power system modelling, analysis and tools development to support AEMO’s control room to operate the grids and markets securely and reliably.

You will support the senior members of the team, the Engineering Tech Lead and the Manager Congestion & Grid Engineering in a number of tasks including modelling generators and network in AEMO’s Energy Management System (EMS) in both the NEM and WEM, SCADA and AGC testing.

What You Will Be Doing

• Regular and timely updates to AEMO’s EMS to match with power system changes due to new generators, loads, batteries and network augmentation as well as improvement and fixes as reported by internal and external stakeholders.
• Contribute to the commissioning / registration of generating plant including SCADA list approval and point-to-point testing.

What You Will Bring To The Role

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering with a power system focus.
• Energy sector experience or experience in a similar complex infrastructure environment.
• Experience with electrical power system modelling and analysis tools (such as SCADA/EMS)
• Understanding of the power system with the ability to apply this knowledge to solve technical problems.
