Job summary

Queensland University of Technology (QUT) seeks an Engineer, End User Environment to join Digital Business Solutions. You will maintain the managed operating environment across Windows and macOS, using SCCM, Intune and Jamf Cloud to ensure a secure, up-to-date campus experience.

You will partner with stakeholders to optimize end-user environments, deliver software packaging and deployment, and drive virtual desktop initiatives for teaching and learning. Hybrid work is available at Kelvin Grove.

• Remuneration: $122,852 to $134,385 pa (HEW7) (inclusive of $103,811 to $113,557 salary pa, 17% superannuation and 17.5% recreation leave loading)

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a Engineer, End User Environment to join Digital Business Solutions, Administrative Division.

The Engineer, End User Environment will work in a small team environment to ensure the effective technical delivery and management of the university's client computing ecosystem and supporting infrastructure. The position ensures the entire computing ecosystem of the university remains current, patched, and highly secured. This role will leverage contemporary device management platforms to ensure a reliable and consistent end user experience. The Engineer, End User Environment is responsible for maintaining the Managed Operating Environment across all QUT computing environments, both physical and virtual, including Windows and MacOS Operating Systems. The incumbent will be experienced using common device and OS management platforms such as Microsoft System Centre Configuration Manager, Microsoft InTune and Jamf Cloud. This role is also responsible for the packaging, deployment and ongoing support of software applications aligned with the university's Enterprise Software Catalogue. This role requires a proactive approach to software updates and enhancements, ensuring compliance with agreed version controls and compatibility with hardware and network infrastructure. The Engineer will also lead the development of virtualised platforms for learning and teaching, leveraging contemporary approaches and technology to deliver specialised virtual desktops and software available to students on their personal devices. This role requires a keen understanding of the user experience and will deliver effective and efficient environments that empower. This position reports to the Team Leader, End User Environment for career planning, development, and performance expectations.

What You Need To Succeed

• Education, training and/or relevant experience equivalent to a degree in an IT related field with subsequent relevant experience.


• Demonstrated experience in supporting Windows, and macOS, operating systems, including experience using contemporary enterprise management platforms.


• Proven ability to develop relationships with stakeholders, understanding their business requirements to develop highly effective processes and environments.


• Demonstrated experience leading small IT projects, prioritising workloads and developing continual service improvement plans, with the ability to proactively manage technology fleets and implement preventive solutions.


• Demonstrated experience in contributing as a technical expert as part of a team and implementing improvement strategies that support effective response to client needs, and achievement of organisation goals.


• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to provide expert advice, training, and guidance to staff and students, and experience in developing engaging Knowledge and How-To guides to enhance user understanding and efficiency.
