Job summary

Join AUSCERT within The University of Queensland as a Senior Software Developer to lead design, development, deployment, and support of critical cybersecurity systems. The role offers high-impact engineering challenges, cloud-first delivery, and mentoring opportunities within a collaborative team.

You will work across software architecture and multiple stacks, shaping secure solutions while engaging with stakeholders and driving continuous improvement in a hybrid work setting.

Qualifications

  • Experience designing, developing, and supporting complex software applications and systems.
  • Strong Python development skills, including frameworks such as Django or NiceGUI.
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, or DynamoDB.
  • Hands-on experience developing and deploying solutions in AWS and/or Azure environments.
  • Knowledge of software engineering best practices, Agile delivery methods, and Git version control.
  • Well-developed communication skills with the ability to collaborate, mentor others, and manage competing priorities.

  • Base salary will be in the range $106,709 - $116,198 + 17% super (HEW Level 7)

Join AUSCERT and help create change together. We are seeking a Senior Software Developer to provide high-level software development, technical leadership, and ongoing support for critical cybersecurity systems and services. Working within a collaborative, inclusive, and purpose-driven team, you will contribute to the design, development, deployment, and maintenance of systems that support one of the world's longest-running Computer Emergency Response Teams. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside experienced cybersecurity and technology professionals, leveraging modern cloud and software engineering practices to deliver solutions that help organisations prevent, detect, and respond to cyber threats.

This is a continuing position that will play a critical role in supporting AUSCERT's cybersecurity services and technology platforms.

About You

You are a collaborative and solutions-focused software development professional who enjoys working in a dynamic environment, building high-quality technology solutions, and mentoring others. You bring strong technical capability, a customer-focused mindset, and a genuine interest in continuous learning and innovation.

  • A degree in Information Technology or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Experience designing, developing, and supporting complex software applications and systems.
  • Strong Python development skills, including frameworks such as Django or NiceGUI.
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, or DynamoDB.
  • Hands‑on experience developing and deploying solutions in AWS and/or Azure environments.
  • Knowledge of software engineering best practices, Agile delivery methods, and Git version control.
  • Well-developed communication skills with the ability to collaborate, mentor others, and manage competing priorities.
