Not many people can say they are working on building Australia’s future. With us you’ll be doing just that, leaving a legacy for all Australians. Plus, there’s equal employment, great training, and true flexible working arrangements.

A fantastic opportunity has presented itself for a Recoveries Lead reporting to the Senior Manager, Credit & Collection Services.

A bit about your role

As the Recoveries Lead, you will protect nbn’s network and financial interests by leading the end-to-end investigation and management of recoverable damage claims, disputes and legal recovery matters. You will assess liability, causation, evidence and recovery prospects; determine case strategy; and manage complex and escalated matters through negotiation, legal referral, recovery and closure.

Working closely with operational teams, nbn Legal, insurers, collection agencies, service partners and external representatives, you will coordinate recovery outcomes and provide specialist legal recovery support across the broader Credit & Collection Services portfolio.

As the operational and subject-matter lead, you will set day-to-day direction, prioritise work and provide coaching and specialist support across internal and outsourced service delivery activities. You will oversee service-provider performance, quality, cost and compliance, ensuring recovery activities meet nbn’s commercial, legal, policy and governance requirements.

You will own and strengthen recovery procedures, controls, reporting and quality standards, monitor emerging risks and escalate material matters to the appropriate delegated authority. By analysing damage and recovery trends, you will maintain a closed feedback loop with field and operational teams and translate insights into prevention, process and control improvements.

You will also lead evidence-based technology, automation, analytics and workflow enhancements that improve recovery outcomes, strengthen data integrity and protect the nbn network.

A bit about you

You are a commercially minded and collaborative recoveries professional with at least five years’ experience in telecommunications or a comparable environment, such as legal recoveries, insurance, complaints, construction or infrastructure claims.

You bring demonstrated experience in claims, dispute resolution and legal recoveries, together with a sound understanding of liability, causation, evidence requirements, cost and debt recovery processes and relevant legal principles. Experience assessing infrastructure damage and a strong understanding of telecommunications networks and damage-prevention practices will be important to your success.

You are confident determining recovery strategies, managing sensitive and escalated matters and negotiating with insurers, legal representatives, suppliers and other external parties. You can translate complex evidence into clear, commercially balanced recommendations for senior stakeholders.

You also bring demonstrated operational leadership and experience managing outsourced service providers, including service levels, performance, quality, cost and contractual obligations. Your strong governance, analytical and communication capabilities enable you to lead through complexity, manage risk and deliver consistent outcomes.

With a proactive and improvement-focused mindset, you are comfortable using technology, automation, analytics and workflow tools to strengthen controls, improve service delivery and achieve better recovery outcomes.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Automotive Technician, Motor Mechanic, Warranty Administrator, Service Advisor, or Dealership Technician who wants to apply their technical knowledge in a different environment.

What you'll do

  • Assess requests for financial assistance for vehicles no longer covered by the New Vehicle Warranty. Review the proposed repair, claim category, and standard repair time, and determine the appropriate level of assistance toward the repair cost.
  • Review dealership claims to ensure the correct claim category, repair method, and standard repair times are being applied.
  • Review technical information, including workshop manuals, Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs), Professional Technical System (PTS), and Technical Assistance Center (TAC) responses. • Assess the vehicle's repair history and customer experience when determining the appropriate level of financial assistance.
  • Communicate with dealerships and Service Engineering to resolve warranty and technical queries.
  • Respond to CSP prior-approval requests within required service levels.
  • Use the OWS prior-approval system to assess and process requests.
  • Identify emerging mechanical and technical trends and provide insights to Service Engineering teams.
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching and feedback to the Customer Response Centre.
  • Provide technical support to the Customer Response Centre when required.
  • Contribute to reporting and improvement projects.

What you'll bring

We're looking for someone who understands automotive repair from practical experience and can apply that knowledge in a structured, customer-focused environment.

You'll ideally have:

  • Certificate III in Automotive Technology/Light Vehicle or Heavy Vehicle
  • 5+ years' automotive mechanical experience, including apprenticeship experience.
  • Dealership experience, ideally 12 months or more.
  • Experience with automotive warranty administration, claims or service advising is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of automotive diagnostics, repair methods and workshop processes.
  • Ability to interpret workshop manuals, warranty policy manuals and technical bulletins.
  • Experience with late-model vehicles would be advantageous.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to negotiate and explain technical decisions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and sound judgement.
  • Strong Microsoft Office and web-application skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple requests, prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
  • Confidence working independently while contributing to a collaborative team.

Why this role?

This is an opportunity to take your automotive experience beyond the workshop and into a role where your technical knowledge directly influences warranty decisions, dealership support and customer outcomes. You'll work with dealerships and automotive technical teams across Australia and New Zealand while developing experience in warranty, technical support, customer assistance and automotive operations.
