Job summary

University of Queensland in Gatton is seeking a VETERINARY SURGEON for emergency and critical care within the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. You will deliver high-quality after-hours emergency care for small animals while contributing to teaching and student supervision in a dynamic, hospital-based setting.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated advanced clinical experience in small animal emergency and critical care.
• Ability to work in a high-acuity, after-hours setting with complex cases.
• Strong commitment to teaching, mentoring and student supervision.
• Relationship-centred approach to veterinary care and client communication.
• Accountability and initiative to drive clinical improvements and patient outcomes.
• Commitment to education of veterinary students and interns.
• Knowledge of Queensland veterinary practice legislation and safety requirements.
• Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, negotiation and written/oral communication.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality emergency and urgent care to small animal patients, including independent management of complex and critical cases.
• Provide clinical leadership during after-hours and weekend services, directing nursing and technical teams.
• Contribute to clinical teaching, mentoring and supervision of undergraduate students, interns and junior clinicians.
• Support service development and continuous improvement initiatives within the Small Animal Hospital.
