Job summary

Perilya is seeking an Emergency Services Officer to join our HSE&T team at the Broken Hill operations. You will lead frontline emergency response, training delivery, risk management, and cross-department collaboration to support a resilient and compliant workforce.

This residential-only position requires a calm, capable responder who can mentor mine rescue team members and drive continuous safety improvements across the site.

Qualifications

  • Certificate III in Mine Emergency Response and Rescue is required.
  • Advanced First Aid Certificate with resuscitation is required.
  • SafeWork NSW Security Clearance is required.
  • General Site and Underground Induction required.
  • Current Australian MR or HR driver's license preferred.
  • Incident Investigation certification is required.
  • Experience as a Mine Rescue Team Member in mining or heavy industry.
  • Training in advanced emergency response techniques.
  • Exposure to operational safety management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Act as first responder to onsite emergencies with effective coordination.
  • Maintain and improve emergency response systems, protocols, and equipment.
  • Lead drills, simulations, and scenario testing.
  • Provide expert guidance during emergencies to minimise risk.
  • Deliver emergency response training to employees and contractors.
  • Develop training materials with Safety & Training team.
  • Review and update emergency response plans.
  • Oversee procurement and maintenance of emergency equipment.

We are seeking a highly skilled Emergency Services Officer (ESO) to join our Health, Safety, Environment & Training (HSE&T) team and play a critical role in protecting our people, assets, and operations.

About the Role

As an Emergency Services Officer, you will be a key frontline responder and safety leader across our Broken Hill operations. You'll ensure our emergency systems, personnel, and equipment are always prepared, while driving proactive safety initiatives that support a resilient and compliant workforce.

This role combines hands-on emergency response, training delivery, risk management, and cross-department collaboration.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Act as first responder to onsite emergencies, ensuring effective coordination and control.
  • Maintain and improve emergency response systems, protocols, and equipment.
  • Lead regular drills, simulations, and scenario testing.
  • Provide expert guidance during emergency situations to minimise risk and ensure safe outcomes.
Safety & Risk Management
  • Conduct hazard and risk assessments (3TCs, JSAs, etc.).
  • Monitor and promote compliance with WHS standards across site.
  • Identify emerging risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Mentor and support mine rescue team members.
  • Work closely with operational teams to align safety and emergency priorities.
  • Contribute to site-wide safety discussions and improvement initiatives.
Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, drills, audits, and safety interactions.
  • Prepare high-quality reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Use data insights to drive continuous improvement.
Training & Development
  • Deliver targeted emergency response training to employees and contractors.
  • Develop training materials in partnership with the Safety & Training team.
  • Evaluate and refine training programs to improve readiness and performance.
  • Review and update emergency response plans to reflect best practice.
  • Identify inefficiencies and implement innovative solutions.
  • Oversee procurement, maintenance, and inventory of emergency equipment and facilities.
What You'll Bring
Required (or willingness to obtain)
  • Certificate III in Mine Emergency Response and Rescue.
  • Advanced (Industrial) First Aid Certificate including resuscitation.
  • SafeWork NSW Security Clearance.
  • General Site and Underground Induction.
  • Competent light vehicle operation in challenging environments: current Australian Drivers Licence required (MR or HR preferred).
  • Incident Investigation certification.
  • Experience as a Mine Rescue Team Member in mining or heavy industry.
  • Training in advanced emergency response techniques.
  • Exposure to operational safety management systems.
