Ampcontrol is seeking an experienced Electrical Transformers Design Engineer to join our Transformer Design Team in Sydney, Australia. You will design and document power transformer products from concept to manufacture, ensuring compliance with customer specs, engineering standards and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed electrical designs, including core, winding, insulation, and cooling systems
• Provide specifications and technical support to the Drafting Team for mechanical design
• Supply electrical design data for material procurement and coil winding design
• Participate in risk assessments, order reviews, and design reviews to drive continual improvement
• Liaise with suppliers, customers, and workshop teams on technical issues and build processes
• Assist in the preparation of client documentation and technical manuals
• Contribute to the development of new products, systems, and standards
• Support and mentor team members to build capability and ensure delivery of team objectives

Ampcontrol Transformers specialise in the design and manufacture of custom-built power transformers, delivering engineered solutions to meet complex equipment and infrastructure requirements. Our innovative range of products includes:

• Substation transformers for utilities, mining and industrial applications
• Generator step-up transformers and wind farm grid connection transformers
• Transformers for mobile plant (shovels and draglines)
• Rectifier transformers for drives and high-current refining applications
• Dry-type transformers for demanding and hazardous environments
• Motor drive and regulating transformers
• Oil-filled reactors and mobile substation transformers

About the Role

We’re seeking an experienced Electrical Transformers Design Engineer to join our high-performing Transformer Design Team. In this key role, you’ll be responsible for the electrical design and documentation of power transformer product, from concept to manufacture ensuring compliance with customer specifications, engineering standards, and safety requirements.

You’ll collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver quality designs that meet both technical and commercial objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed electrical designs, including core, winding, insulation, and cooling systems

About You

You’ll bring a strong background in transformer design engineering and a passion for delivering reliable, efficient, and innovative solutions. Ideally, you have:

• Degree qualifications in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience)
• Extensive experience in power transformer design (oil or dry-type preferred)
• Strong understanding of electrical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement
