Job summary

Coregas is seeking an experienced Electrical & Instrumentation Technician for our Port Kembla site. You will install, maintain and troubleshoot electrical and instrumentation equipment critical to production and safety.

Reporting to the Site Maintenance team, you’ll perform planned and breakdown maintenance, manage documentation in MEX CMMS, and supervise contractors while upholding strict safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Australian recognised electrical trade qualification.
  • Experience in heavy industrial, manufacturing, gas, mining, steel, chemical or processing environments.
  • Familiar with industrial safe work systems (e.g., electrical isolation, working at heights, confined space).
  • Experience installing and maintaining instrumentation systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and technical documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform planned, preventative and breakdown maintenance on electrical/instrumentation equipment.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot faults in electrical and instrumentation systems.
  • Maintain maintenance records in the MEX CMMS system.
  • Support safe operation of plant equipment and infrastructure.
  • Supervise contractors and ensure site safety compliance.
  • Assist with risk assessments, changes and root cause investigations.
  • Contribute to safety, reliability and cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Support operations to minimise downtime and maximise plant performance.

We are seeking an experienced Electrical & Instrumentation Technician to join our Tonnage & Engineering team based at Port Kembla. In this hands‑on role, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical and instrumentation equipment that supports our critical production operations.

About the Role

Reporting to the Site Maintenance team, your responsibilities will include:

  • Performing planned, preventative and breakdown maintenance activities
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical and instrumentation faults
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records through the MEX maintenance management system
  • Supporting safe operation of critical plant equipment and infrastructure
  • Supervising contractors and ensuring compliance with site safety requirements
  • Assisting with risk assessments, management of change and root cause investigations
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, reliability and cost reduction
  • Supporting operational teams to minimise downtime and maximise plant performance
About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • An Australian recognised Electrical Trade Qualification
  • Experience in a heavy industrial, manufacturing, gas, mining, steel, chemical or processing environment
  • Strong understanding of industrial safe work systems, including:
  • Electrical Isolation
  • Working at Heights
  • Confined Space Entry
  • Experience installing and maintaining instrumentation systems
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and technical documentation
  • Experience using electrical and instrumentation testing equipment
  • Sound computer skills and maintenance system exposure
  • Strong communication and problem‑solving abilities
Highly Regarded
  • Experience with HV systems and electrical motors
  • Instrumentation calibration experience
  • Experience with compressors, pumps and process plant equipment
  • Welding, fabrication or tube‑bending skills
  • Forklift, EWP or other mobile equipment licences
