Job summary

JML Trades is seeking an experienced electrician to establish and lead our residential electrical division in Canberra. This role transitions you from on-the-tools to leadership, while staying connected to the trade you love.

You’ll build a team of electricians, mentor apprentices, oversee quotes and project quality, and work with our operations team to grow Canberra's leading multi-service business. This is day-one division development with support behind you.

• Extensive residential electrical experience.

JML Trades is a locally owned and operated business servicing Canberra, Queanbeyan and surrounding regions for over 10 years.

With specialist divisions across Plumbing, Roofing and Air Conditioning, we’ve built our reputation on quality workmanship, exceptional customer service and looking after our team. We’re now investing in building out our Electrical division, and we’re looking for the right leader to help take it from the ground up.

We’re growing rapidly, investing heavily in our systems and staff, and we’re looking for the right leader to help build our kick start our residential electrical team and build it up to be its own division.

The Opportunity

This isn’t another service manager role where you’re chained to a desk.

You’ll spend your time building the team, supporting technicians, helping customers, reviewing quotes, improving systems and ensuring jobs are completed to the high standard JML Trades is known for.

This role suits someone who has previously built their own electrical business or established an electrical department within another company — you understand what it takes to build a team, systems and reputation from the ground up, and you’re ready to do it again within a supportive, well-resourced business behind you.

As our first Electrical Manager, you’ll have the opportunity to shape this division from day one — you’ll be the link between our field team and office, ensuring everyone has what they need to succeed.

Your Responsibilities

• Build, lead and mentor a team of residential electricians and apprentices from the ground up.
• Establish systems and processes for a growing electrical department.
• Provide technical guidance and support when required.
• Review quotes, job reports and completed work for quality and accuracy.
• Assist with scheduling and resource planning alongside our administration team.
• Visit sites when required to support staff or resolve technical issues.
• Coach and develop team members to improve performance.
• Maintain strong relationships with residential customers.
• Identify opportunities for additional works that genuinely benefit the customer.
• Drive a positive team culture focused on safety, quality and customer service.

We're Looking For Someone Who

• Has extensive experience in residential electrical work.
• Has previously built their own electrical business, or established/grown an electrical department for another company.
• Naturally enjoys mentoring and helping others succeed.
• Is organised and can prioritise multiple jobs.
• Communicates well with both customers and tradespeople.
• Wants to step into leadership while remaining involved in the industry.
• Leads by example and takes pride in quality workmanship.
• Previous management or business-building experience is essential. If you’ve built something before — whether that’s your own business or a department within someone else’s — and you’re ready to do it again with the backing of an established company, we’d love to hear from you.
