Job summary

Vena Group in Australia seeks an experienced Electrical Engineer to oversee HV/LV electrical systems, ensuring safety compliance across power generation and industrial sites. You will collaborate with OEMs and contractors to resolve issues, maintain technical docs, support performance reporting and drive reliability improvements.

This role requires 3–5 years of Electrical Engineering experience, and a proactive, collaborative approach within a fast-paced energy environment.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 3–5 years energy sector electrical engineering experience.
• HV/LV systems knowledge and plant electrical infrastructure experience.

Responsibilities

• Ensure electrical engineering activities comply with safety standards, site procedures and regulations.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation for plant electrical systems (SLDs, protection coordination, system configurations).
• Coordinate with OEMs, contractors and service providers to resolve electrical and plant issues; provide oversight during contractor-led works.
• Support operations with electrical faults, plant trips, BOP system issues and maintenance scopes; assist root-cause analysis.
• Analyse plant performance to identify electrical losses, reliability issues and inefficiencies; support performance improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Technical ComplianceEnsure all electrical engineering activities are conducted in accordance with electrical safety standards, site procedures, and relevant regulationsSupport safe execution of electrical work across HV and LV systemsProvide engineering input into incident investigations, particularly electrical faults and failuresQuality Assurance, Reporting & BudgetsDevelop and maintain technical documentation for plant electrical systems (SLDs, protection coordination, system configurations)Provide technical inputs into operational reporting and performance analysis where electrical systems impact performanceSupport validation of plant performance data, particularly electrical losses and availability impactsAssist in evaluating technical vendor proposals and scopes of work

Contractor & Stakeholder ManagementWork with OEMs, contractors, and service providers to resolve electrical and plant issuesProvide technical oversight during contractor-led works involving electrical systemsSupport review of contractor performance on electrical maintenance and fault response

Operations & Maintenance (Core Electrical Accountability)Support power systems activities for operational projects, including NER and generator performance standard compliance requirementsAssist with the generator non-compliance process, including identification, reporting, rectification tracking, and closure activitiesProvide technical support to Operations teams for electrical faults, plant trips, BOP system failures, and HV/LV system issuesSupport root cause analysis for electrical failures, plant trips, and performance-related issuesAssist with maintenance and outage activities by reviewing technical scopes, test procedures, work methods, and troubleshooting requirements

Plant Electrical Systems & BOP PerformanceProvide technical oversight of plant electrical infrastructure, including transformers, switchgear, collection systems, protection systems and auxiliary systems.Analyse plant performance to identify electrical losses, equipment reliability issues and system inefficiencies.Work closely with Asset Management to support performance improvement initiatives

Asset Optimisation & Engineering ImprovementsIdentify and support electrical improvements to improve plant reliability and availabilityAssist with plant improvement initiatives and regulatory interface activities with NSPs and AEMO, under guidance where requiredSupport plant upgrades, including electrical modifications, protection updates, and equipment upgradesProvide technical input into lifecycle and maintenance planning decisions

Risk ManagementIdentify electrical risks across the plant and support mitigation planningAssess condition and performance of electrical systems and equipmentProvide input into asset risk registers and mitigation strategies

Prerequisites

Degree in Electrical Engineering 3–5 years’ experience in electrical engineering within power generation, renewable energy, utilities, mining, industrial, or similar infrastructure environmentsExperience working with HV/LV systems and plant electrical infrastructureExperience supporting operating assets, maintenance activities, or technical troubleshootingWorking knowledge of plant electrical systems, including HV/LV systems, transformers, protection, and switchgearAbility to support fault analysis and root cause investigationsUnderstanding of plant performance drivers and electrical lossesAbility to interpret technical drawings, reports, and plant performance dataStrong problem-solving capabilityAbility to work under operational pressureEffective communication with site teams and contractorsStakeholder management and coordination
