Responsibilities

• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on motors, VFDs, heating elements, and boilers.
• Inspect, test, and repair electrical panels, transformers, relays, wiring.
• Monitor loads and thermal performance to prevent overloads.
• Read and interpret schematics; diagnose automation faults.
• Troubleshoot PLC I/O, SCADA, sensors, and packaging/machinery.
• Calibrate instrumentation, temperature controllers, load cells, and meters.
• Ensure compliance with AS/NZS 3000, OHS, and HACCP in processing zones.
• Respond quickly to breakdowns; minimize downtime with production teams.
• Assist with wiring, testing, commissioning, and optimising new machinery.

Kogan People Solutions are working with a food manufacturing and distribution company specialising in authentic South Asian and international food products as they search to recruit a skilled experienced Electrical Engineering Technician.

The company serves as both a production plant and a wholesale distributor for supermarket chains, Indian grocery stores, and food service providers across Australia.

This role is responsible for the maintenance, testing, fault diagnosis, and continuous improvement of high-voltage industrial electrical systems, automated production lines, motor controls, and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) environments..

Key Responsibilities

1. Plant Maintenance & Electrical Support

• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on high-power electric motors, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), heating elements, and industrial boilers across ghee, flour, and spice production lines.
• Inspect, test, and repair electrical panels, distribution boards, transformers, relays, switches, and industrial wiring throughout the processing and warehousing facility.
• Monitor electrical loads and thermal performance of control cabinets to prevent system overloads or electrical failures.

2. Automation, PLCs & Control Systems

• Read and interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and technical manuals to diagnose automation faults.
• Troubleshoot PLC inputs/outputs, SCADA interfaces, sensor networks (photoelectric, proximity, temperature, pressure), and automated packaging/weighing machinery.
• Calibrate electronic instrumentation, temperature controllers, load cells, and flow meters to maintain consistent batch quality and processing accuracy.

3. Safety, Compliance & Risk Management

• Ensure all electrical works and machinery modifications comply with Australian Standards (AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules) and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation.
• Conduct regular test-and-tag programs, thermal imaging inspections, and functional safety checks on emergency stops and interlocks.
• Adhere strictly to food safety and hygienic maintenance practices (HACCP) when performing work in food processing zones.

4. Breakdown Response & Operational Efficiency

• Provide rapid response to machine breakdowns and electrical faults during production shifts to minimise plant downtime.
• Work closely with mechanical fitters, machine operators, and production managers to systematically identify root causes of operational disruptions.
• Support capital project installations, assisting with the wiring, testing, commissioning, and optimisation of newly acquired machinery.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

Required:

• Diploma in a highly relevant discipline, or agreed substitute
• Demonstrated experience in PLC diagnostics and motor control systems.
• Strong working knowledge of industrial sensors, VFDs, pneumatic controls, and relay logic.
• Proficiency in reading complex electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
• At least three years of highly relevant professional experience in similar industrial environments (i.e. HACCP / GMP regulated clean manufacturing conditions).
