Job summary

Fyfe in Melbourne is seeking an Electrical & Controls Engineer to deliver concept to detailed design, procurement support, and commissioning for infrastructure projects.

You will work across medium and low voltage systems, contribute to safety reviews, and coordinate with process, mechanical and operations teams in a collaborative, inclusive environment. Prepare drawings and schedules, use Elecdes, and provide technical inputs for design reports and vendor assessments.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in Medium Voltage/Low Voltage electrical design.
• Strong working knowledge of Australian Standards.
• Demonstrated experience in I&C design.
• Confidence contributing across all project phases, from concept and schematic design through to detailed delivery.
• Experience in working on complex infrastructure projects is highly regarded.
• Collaborative approach and clear communication with engineers, clients and consultants.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and check electrical and control system deliverables including single line diagrams, network architecture drawings, I/O schedules, cable schedules, loop drawings, termination drawings, panel layouts, datasheets and bills of material.
• Support LV design activities including cable sizing, cable containment sizing, reticulation diagrams, generator sizing and electrical load inputs.
• Use engineering design tools such as Elecdes where required to produce consistent drawings and schedules.
• Prepare clear technical inputs for design reports, specifications and design review packs.
• Develop instrumentation and control design packages for water, wastewater, mining and industrial facilities.
• Coordinate controls requirements with process, mechanical and operations stakeholders.
• Support or prepare engineering studies such as arc flash, EMI and EMF assessments where assigned.
• Contribute to Safety in Design reviews, HAZOP, CHAZOP, constructability reviews and close-out of discipline actions.
• Identify design risks early and communicate clear mitigation actions.
• Deliver assigned work packages to agreed scope, schedule and budget.
• Coordinate discipline inputs with other engineering teams and resolve interface issues in a practical manner.
• Support project leads with progress reporting, resource forecasting, budget inputs and action tracking.
• Respond to technical queries from clients, suppliers, contractors and internal project teams.
• Prepare technical specifications and support technical evaluation of vendor submissions.
• Provide engineering support for procurement, manufacturing, site installation and commissioning activities.
• Review supplier documentation and resolve technical comments in line with project requirements.
• Participate in client meetings, design workshops and supplier discussions.
• Maintain clear, professional communication and follow through on commitments.
• Support positive relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers and internal design teams.
