Job summary

Talent is seeking an EL2 Lead Developer for a Federal Government agency to lead API platform development connecting digital channels with enterprise systems (Salesforce, MuleSoft). Melbourne or Geelong, 12 month contract with at least 3 days in the office weekly; minimum baseline security clearance, NV1 preferred.

You will mentor developers and drive modern engineering practices in a cloud-native environment.

Qualifications

• Proven track record leading consumer-facing API platforms and integrations for digital channels
• Strong Golang, GraphQL, API auth patterns and service-to-service communication
• Experience deploying cloud-native apps on Kubernetes and AWS (EKS)
• Experience with Cloudflare security features
• Ability to establish engineering standards, code reviews, automated testing and CI/CD
• Experience collaborating with architects, integration teams, Salesforce teams, delivery leads and stakeholders
• Experience working in government or regulated technology environments

Job description

Our client is a large Federal Government agency seeking an EL2 level Lead Developer to join their team and lead the development of the API platform to connect digital channels with enterprise systems including integrations to Salesforce and MuleSoft.

• 12 month contract + potential 12 month extension
• Melbourne or Geelong, minimum 3 days per week in the office
• Minimum baseline security clearance, with NV1 preferred

The EL2 Lead Developer will work closely with architects, frontend development teams, platform engineers, Salesforce teams and integration specialists, and provide technical leadership for the development of API and backend integrations for digital platform services. This will include establish engineering standards, guiding technical decision-making and mentor developers and driving the adoption of modern engineering practices, AI-assisted software development and cloud-native architectures, while remaining actively involved in solution delivery.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development and evolution of the consumer API platform, supporting web applications, portals and mobile applications
• Define and maintain technical architecture, API standards and engineering practices for backend services developed using modern frameworks such as Golang, GraphQL and cloudnative technologies
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to backend developers, supporting high-quality engineering outcomes and continuous capability uplift
• Collaborate closely with Salesforce, MuleSoft, frontend and platform engineering teams to deliver integrated end-to-end digital solutions
• Drive the adoption of modern software engineering practices, including AI-assisted development, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, observability and platform automation
• Contribute to platform reliability, security and operational excellence across AWS, Kubernetes and Cloudflare-based environments
• Support technical governance activities, architecture reviews and technology decision-making to ensure solutions remain maintainable, secure and scalable over the long term

About You

• Solid demonstrated experience leading the development and design of consumer-facing API platforms and integration solutions for digital channels including portals and mobile apps
• Strong technical expertise in Golang, GraphQL, API architecture, authentication and authorisation patterns, service-to-service communication and modern integration approaches
• Demonstrated experience designing and operating cloud-native applications using Kubernetes, AWS services including Amazon EKS, and contemporary platform engineering practices
• Experience implementing and supporting Cloudflare technologies, including Zero Trust, Access, Tunnels and edge security capabilities
• Experience establishing engineering standards, code review practices, automated testing approaches, CI/CD pipelines, and leveraging contemporary AI-assisted software engineering tools to accelerate delivery
• Proven ability to lead, mentor and uplift engineering teams while working effectively with architects, integration teams, Salesforce teams, delivery leads and business stakeholders
• Experience working within government, regulated or highly governed technology environments

This role requires Australian Citizenship, with a current security clearance of baseline or higher. You must hold or be eligible to obtain an NV1 security clearance to be considered for this role.
