Job summary

Randstad is partnering with a Federal Government client to appoint an EL1 Assistant Director, Strategic Policy in Australia. The role focuses on driving national-scale policy delivery, stakeholder engagement, and strategic reform across disability initiatives.

The successful candidate will lead reform projects, translate complex policy into executive-ready products, and manage cross-agency collaboration while guiding resources and teams in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• Analytical and conceptual problem-solving能力 to translate policy into strategic products.
• Strong stakeholder engagement, judgement, and negotiation for cross-agency alignment.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a complex environment and drive reform initiatives.
• Experience developing strategic policy and working with government audiences including governance or project planning.
• Exposure to disability reform, complex procurements, legislative frameworks, or strategic commissioning is desirable.

• Lead the delivery, implementation, and analysis of reform projects and strategic policy issues.
• Translate high-level thinking into high-quality strategic products, including papers, reports, presentations, briefings, and ministerial correspondence.
• Engage, negotiate and build unified positions with internal and external stakeholders to inform policy implementation.
• Collect and analyse data to inform advice, recommendations and risk evaluations.
• Provide team leadership and manage resources to support reform objectives.

Are you a strategic policy professional who wants to make an impact on a national scale by driving policy delivery, stakeholder engagement, and strategic reform?

I am currently partnering with a prominent Federal Government client in the disability sector with an exciting and specialised role of EL1 Assistant Director, Strategic Policy. This is a critical role within the agency's policy and reform functions.

About the Opportunity

In this key role, you will lead the delivery and implementation of key reform projects and translate high-level thinking into strategic products for senior executives and Ministers. You will apply structured problem-solving, evaluate risks in a complex operating environment, and lead policy development to advance key national initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Leading the delivery, implementation, and analysis of reform projects and strategic policy issues in line with broader reform programs.
• Translating high-level thinking into high-quality strategic products, including papers, reports, presentations, briefings, and ministerial correspondence.
• Engaging, negotiating, and building unified positions with internal and external stakeholders to influence practical solutions for policy implementation.
• Collecting and analysing data to inform advice, recommendations, and risk evaluations in a dynamic environment.
• Providing team leadership, contributing to a positive workplace culture, and managing resources effectively.

Ideally you will possess

• Analytical & Conceptual Skills: Proven ability to rapidly solve complex problems at pace using hypothesis-led or structured methodologies with limited direction.
• Stakeholder Management: Exceptional communication, judgement, and negotiation skills to build productive relationships and handle feedback constructively.
• Adaptability & Drive: Strong ability to flexibly adapt and lead changing priorities within a complex operating environment, with a passion for driving reform.
• Policy & Government Expertise: Experience developing strategic policy, working with government audiences, and managing program governance or project planning methodologies.
• Desirable Experience: Exposure to disability reform, complex procurements, legislative frameworks, or strategic commissioning.
