Job summary

The Y Canberra Region is seeking an Early Childhood Teacher to lead high-quality, play-based programs that foster curiosity and learning. You will work with Educational Leaders and Centre Director to plan, deliver and evaluate activities aligned with EYLF, NQF and NQS, while documenting progress and partnering with families.

You will mentor educators, uphold safeguarding, health and safety, and contribute to the Centre’s Quality Improvement Plan.

Qualifications

• You meet one of the qualification pathways listed: ACECQA-recognised bachelor, diploma with partial bachelor, or current enrolment with ACECQA Bachelor, or TQI registration.
• Registration with ACT Teacher Quality Institute (TQI) or eligibility to obtain before commencing.
• WWVP, food safety, first aid/CPR, asthma and anaphylaxis certifications or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of high-quality, play-based programs aligned with EYLF, NQF and NQS.
• Plan, deliver and evaluate programs in collaboration with Educational Leader and Centre Director.
• Document children's progress and build strong partnerships with families.
• Contribute to the Centre's Quality Improvement Plan and mentor educators.
• Support safeguarding, health, safety and compliance across the service.

Job description

We’re looking for an Early Childhood Teacher (ECT) who values meaningful relationships, engaging learning experiences and a supportive team culture.

About the role

As an Early Childhood Teacher, you’ll lead the delivery of high-quality, play-based programs that support children’s learning and development. Working with the Educational Leader, Lead Educators and Centre Director, you’ll guide educators to plan, deliver and evaluate programs aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), National Quality Framework (NQF) and National Quality Standard (NQS).

You’ll create a safe and inclusive learning environment, document children’s progress, build strong partnerships with families and contribute to the Centre’s Quality Improvement Plan (QIP). You’ll also mentor educators and support high standards of child safety, health and compliance.

What you’ll bring

Qualifications and registration

You meet one of the following qualification pathways:

• An ACECQA-recognised Bachelor qualification in Early Childhood Education, or an equivalent approved qualification; or
• A Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care and completion of at least 50% of an ACECQA-recognised Bachelor qualification in Early Childhood Education, or an equivalent approved qualification; or
• Current enrolment in, and active progress towards, an ACECQA-recognised Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) or equivalent teaching qualification.
• Current registration with the ACT Teacher Quality Institute (TQI), or eligibility to obtain registration before commencing.

Certificates and checks

• A paid ACT Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) card, or willingness to obtain one before commencing.
• A Do Food Safely certificate, or willingness to obtain one.
• Current First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain it.
• Asthma and Anaphylaxis certification, or willingness to obtain it.

Training

You’ll need to complete the required Y mandatory training and online learning modules before commencing, including:

• Y Mandatory Internal Training and organisational online learning modules.
• Geccko Foundations of Child Safety Training, Courses 1 and 2.
• Geccko Advanced Child Safety Training, Courses 3 and 4.
