Job summary

Carey Baptist Grammar School is seeking an experienced and collaborative EAL Coordinator to lead the development and delivery of high-quality English as an Additional Language programs. The role supports students from diverse language backgrounds and builds staff capability across the curriculum.

This is a part-time 0.6FTE position for 1 year, commencing in Term 1, 2027, with potential for ongoing engagement for the right candidate.

Qualifications

• A recognised teaching qualification with a TESOL/EAL major or equivalent.
• Experience teaching or coordinating EAL programs, ideally within an Australian school.
• Strong knowledge of current EAL frameworks, assessment practices, and inclusive teaching strategies.
• Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills.
• Experience in program implementation, data analysis, and staff leadership or coaching.
• Current Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of EAL programs.
• Supervise and support EAL teachers as required.
• Coordinate assessment, tracking, reporting, and learning support for EAL students.
• Design and implement targeted interventions for students at varying stages of English language development.
• Collaborate with teachers to differentiate learning and support inclusive classroom practice.
• Develop Individual EAL Learning Plans where required.
• Provide professional learning, coaching, and advice to staff on effective EAL strategies and assessment.
• Use student data and evidence to support program development and continuous improvement.
• Maintain an EAL/English teaching load as deemed appropriate by the Principal.
