Job summary

Polaris Education Holdsworth School in Burnley is seeking a SENCO to lead SEN policy development and provision for pupils aged 5–18 with complex needs. The role involves coordinating annual reviews, safeguarding duties, and close collaboration with teachers, families and external agencies to deliver targeted interventions.

Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status required to teach in a UK setting.
• National Award for SEN Co-ordination or willingness to complete the NPQ for SENCOs.
• Experience in school self-evaluation and development planning.
• Experience in teaching in an Autism/SEMH environment.
• Experience in leading INSET and delivering training.
• Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development.

Responsibilities

• Set strategic direction for SEN policy and provision in the school.
• Design and deliver interventions to close attainment gaps.
• Assess and monitor pupil progress in line with EHCPs.
• Coordinate, prepare and chair annual reviews.
• Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead.
• Lead Early Help and attend multi‑agency meetings.
• Support Learning Plans with teachers, tutors and parents.
• Oversee day‑to‑day SEN policy operations and records.
• Collaborate with external agencies to support pupil development.
