Job summary

Aurizon is seeking a dedicated Driver Trainer for our Mackay depot. You will mentor and coach Trainee and Qualified Locomotive Drivers within competency-based frameworks to safely drive trains and meet business objectives.

You will develop training plans, perform assessments, and maintain records while adhering to enterprise agreements and safety standards. Join Australia’s largest rail freight operator and contribute to our ongoing success.

Qualifications

• Mandatory Certificate IV in Transport and Logistics (Rail Operations).
• Mandatory C class driver’s licence.
• Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is well regarded.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate acquisition of competence to required standards by motivating, instructing, mentoring and assessing personnel.
• Provide coaching to trainee and qualified locomotive drivers within competency-based frameworks.
• Deliver and maintain training and assessment plans, logs and check sheets for operations staff.
• Perform fair assessments to high safety standards using upskilling methods.

Job description

Aurizon is seeking a dedicated Driver Trainer to join our Mackay depot. Be instrumental in the in the success of Australia’s largest rail freight operator and perform an integral role to contribute to the continued success of our business. This role will see you provide mentoring and coaching to both Trainee & Qualified Locomotive Drivers within competency-based frameworks to safely drive a train to meet business objectives.

• Facilitate and lead the acquisition of competence to required standards by motivating, instructing, mentoring, coaching and assessing personnel.
• Commit to creating a supportive relationship with the trainee drivers and maintainers to support the training program objectives.
• Instruct and coach personnel in train and maintenance management competencies, procedures and route competencies to high standards.
• Deliver and maintain training and assessment plans, required reports, learning documents, logbooks and check sheets for operations and maintenance staff.
• Perform valid and fair assessments of personnel to high safety standards whilst utilising a range of upskilling methods to ensure competencies are maintained.
• Plan and organise competency and learning programs to meet operational requirements which are effective methods of assessment and maintenance of competence.
• Perform administrative duties including maintenance of required files and training records.
• Work in accordance with relevant Enterprise Agreements and other industrial agreements relevant to the position.
• Download, analyse and deliver train handling records to Rail Traffic Crew
  

About you:

You are a natural teacher who has an encouraging and calm approach. You will be a self-starter who, possesses the ability to give constructive advice.

• A Certificate IV in Transport and Logistics (Rail Operations)- mandatory
• Hold a valid 'C' class driver's licence- mandatory
• Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (well regarded)
• QLD Safe working System qualifications
• Route knowledge preferred
• Ability to train and give clear instructions
• Great communication skills, both verbally and written
• Ability to work in teams effectively to achieve goals
• Good organisational skills, including the ability to keep accurate records.
• Maintain strict confidentiality with training materials, assessment content, and participant records.
• Basic level of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
