Job summary

Sargeant Transport in Melbourne is seeking a dedicated Driver Trainer to service Truganina and surrounding depots, ensuring drivers are skilled, compliant and confident on the road.

You'll conduct on-road assessments, design training programmes, maintain records and deliver load security, fatigue management and compliance training, with overnight travel to Echuca region mid-December. A current MC licence, 5+ years in heavy vehicles and a Cert IV in Training and Assessment are required.

Qualifications

• Must hold current MC licence with clean driving record.
• Min 5 years' experience in heavy vehicle industry.
• Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or willing to obtain).
• Available for overnight travel to Echuca region mid-December for a week.
• Strong knowledge of road safety regulations and transport compliance.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for driver development.
• Strong admin and organisational skills for training schedules and records.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping and reporting.
• Desirable: experience developing training materials or group sessions.

Key responsibilities

Conduct on-road assessments and evaluations of driver performance, providing constructive feedback and coaching

Design, develop and deliver driver training programmes covering both theoretical knowledge and practical skills

Identify training needs and develop customised development plans for drivers at all levels

Maintain accurate and detailed training records, documentation and driver competency profiles

Deliver training on load security, fatigue management and compliance requirements

Collaborate with management to identify trends, gaps and opportunities for driver development

Conduct refresher training and retraining for existing drivers as required

Ensure all training activities comply with relevant road transport legislation and industry standards

What we're looking for

Current and valid multi-combination (MC) vehicle licence with a clean driving record

Minimum 5 years' experience in heavy vehicle industry

Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or willingness to obtain)

MUST be available for overnight travel to Echuca region during mid-December for a week-long period

Strong knowledge of road safety regulations, fatigue management laws and transport compliance requirements

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to engage, provide constructive feedback and support driver development

Strong administrative and organisational skills with the capacity to manage training schedules and documentation

Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in record-keeping and reporting

Reliability, professionalism and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Desirable: Experience in developing training materials or conducting group training sessions
