Job summary

Norton Gold Fields Limited is seeking a Drill and Blast Engineer to join the Open Pit Technical Services team in Western Australia. You will design and deliver drill and blast plans to maximize productivity and efficiency across open pit operations.

Key duties include developing daily and weekly drill designs, tracking progress, evaluating drill fleet performance, and supporting reporting with the Drill and Blast Specialist. A pathway for graduates exists with mentoring and development.

Qualifications

• 2+ years in open pit engineering, essential for drill and blast.
• WA Class C Driver’s Licence held and valid.
• Dangerous Goods Security Card required.

Responsibilities

• Develop daily/weekly drill designs aligned with mine schedule.
• Monitor pattern progress; address variances to keep production on track.
• Assess drill fleet quality and performance for improvements.
• Provide production stats, logs and explosives reporting support.
• Mentor graduates and coordinate with the Drill and Blast team.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

As the Drill and Blast Engineer at Norton Gold Fields, you will be a key member of the Open Pit Technical Services team, responsible for designing and delivering drill and blast plans that drive productivity and maximise performance across our open pit operations.

• Develop daily and weekly drill designs and tie-in plans in collaboration with key stakeholders, ensuring alignment with the weekly and monthly mine schedule.
• Monitor drill pattern progress against schedule targets, identify variances and take corrective action to keep production on track.
• Regularly assess the quality and performance of the drill and blast fleet, identifying opportunities for improvement across open pit operations.
• Support the Drill and Blast Specialist with production statistics, drill logs and explosives reporting.
• Maintain strong working relationships with the drill and blast team to ensure patterns are distributed in a timely manner and the mining cycle is not disrupted.
• Provide support to the Production Engineering team as required, and assist with coaching and mentoring of graduates and team members.

ABOUT YOU

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in an open pit engineering role, preferably in drill and blast (Essential)
• Current, unrestricted WA Class “C” Driver’s Licence (Essential)
• Dangerous Goods Security Card (Essential)
• Relevant Mining Diploma or engineering qualification (Desirable)
• Proficient in MPX, MS Excel, Surpac and ShotPlus (Essential)
• Sound understanding of mine planning, geology and open pit mining techniques
• Strong communicator with the ability to engage effectively across operations, technical teams and senior management
